In the Art / Craft Room

Art

Students have completed their Pop Art inspired clay works and they will paint these once I have finished firing all the clay works. We have started working on our textile unit with each year level having a different focus. Students in the foundation level are working on their stitched hessian bags. Grade one/two students are making great progress on their recycled sock toys, using found items to add imaginative details. Grades three to six are using wet and dry felting techniques to create their artwork. Grade three/four students are making semi circle felted soft toys, using premade felt to stitch on extra details. Grade four/five and five/six classes are making felted bowls.

I had a lot of fun meeting many of you at our parent teacher interview day. I had the art room set up with a small sample of students' art and craft work as a teaser of what you can see at our upcoming Arts Festival.

Look out for the Arts Festival newsletter attached to this newsletter with a QR code that you can use that will take you to the site where you can sign up to volunteer to support our Arts Festival. We are very excited as it has been two years since our last festival was held at school.

This years festival date is Saturday October 22nd 11am to 4pm

Craft

We have completed our clay unit and I am now waiting to complete all the clay firing before students can paint their clay works. This term prep students are learning to do finger knitting so they can use their finger knitting to add to their clay mobile and to make a handle for their stitched bag. We will also explore a simple cardboard weaving loom to make a decorative wall hanging. Students in class one and two are completing work on their recorder bags. Class three are working on their stitched sunray cushions. Class four/five and five/six are working on their various knitting projects that we began last year late in term four.

All students in class three to six will be working on their knitting projects in term three, so we will need lots of adults to assist with supporting students to learn knitting. If you are able to help please come along and support the craft program. You will need a current working with children check. Please sign in at the office before you come to the art room.
