In 2022, our school is participating in Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools – School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS). MACSSIS is an annual process whereby schools listen to the thoughts and feelings students, families and staff have about how their school can improve. These surveys help inform the ongoing improvement of schools across the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

One of the main goals of the family survey is to identify the strengths and areas for improvement in our school. MACSSIS data benefits everyone within our school and provides valuable community insights on areas that each school can focus on. Our school believes it is important to encourage families to have a voice and contribute to shaping the ongoing improvement of the school.

The survey is available online, can be accessed from Monday 29 August and needs to be completed by Friday 16 September 2022. This survey may only be completed once.

For families with more than one child attending our school, we ask that you focus on the eldest child attending the school when completing the survey. The school has invited many families to respond via this survey and participation is completely voluntary. There are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers – all responses are completely anonymous and at no point are any of the responses from students, families or staff identifiable by the school.

The survey is available in English, Arabic, Assyrian, Chaldean, simplified and traditional Chinese, Dinka, Falam, Hakha Chin, Karen, Tagalog, Vietnamese and Zomi.

You will receive an email next week with the website and your personal pin.

Hello from our Sustainability Leaders

On Friday 12th August our Sustainability Leaders attended the Kingston Big Green Schools Conference at Carrum Primary School. It was our first time attending the sustainability conference and our leaders had a great experience. Alex, Oscar, Kara and Mia will work on a project that they will present at the second and final day of the conference in November. They are looking forward to sharing this project with the OLA community and local schools. Stay tuned!

On the 12th of August 2022 the four Sustainability leaders went on an excursion to Carrum Primary School to learn and hear other great environmental ideas from Sustainability Leaders in local schools. Carrum Primary was such a good school the things they did there were amazing. I think we should do some of these activities ourselves to teach our students to become a more sustainable school. My favourite activity we did there at Carrum Primary was their podcasts room and we got to answer their questions on a radio show. I think this was a great idea because they get to talk about their school events and problems share it to the community and spread their messages. They said they wanted a school clean up day where they could talk about it in the podcasts and spread the word to their community to get help. I think it was really important that us four sustainability leaders went there because now we can get more ideas and tips to make OLA a more clean and sustainable school. Alex

On the 12th of August the iSea iCare leaders went on an excursion to Carrum Primary School to attend the Kingston Big Green Schools Conference. There we had a look at what other schools were going to do to make their school more sustainable. We also had a look at what Carrum Primary school was doing. There were rotations and we got to see everything that made the school sustainable. I was really surprised as they talked about how they had chickens, goats and even birds. My favourite activity was when we had to design a poster and fill it up with ideas of a project that we will do at OLA. We all really enjoyed this and we now have a couple of ideas and tips to share with OLA and the rest of the community. Mia
On the 12th of August the Sustainability Leaders went to Carrum Primary School for the Big Green Schools Conference. At their school they had goats, chickens and birds and a very impressive sustainability program. We participated in many group activities and my favourite one was brushing the goats. We had to present to over two hundred students and share out project idea which was coming up with a whole school rubbish free lunch competition. I am looking forward to building this idea at OLA. Oscar

Wow! Going to the Big Green Schools conference was so much fun! I really enjoyed presenting our idea to the other schools about the other iSea sCare days and I put a lot of effort into our presentation. At the start of the day we listened to some other kids talk about an app they are making and then we went and participated in activity stations around the school. My favourite thing we got to do was being interviewed by two students from Carrum Primary School for their school podcast. We also got to meet the other school's goats named Pebbles and Barny which were very adorable. I even got to feed them! It was very educational and very engaging. Kara
