Reading and Viewing: The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane- Kate DiCamillo and CSI Reading comprehension Program. Focus: Students use comprehension strategies to build literal and inferred meaning and begin to evaluate texts by drawing on a growing knowledge of context, text structures and language features. Understand how content can be organised using different text structures depending on the purpose of the text. They understand how language features, images and vocabulary choices are used for different effects. Writing: George’s Marvellous Medicine and Procedural writing. Focus: There will be a strong emphasis on Grammar in which students will focus on nouns, verbs, adjectives and punctuation. In Writing, children will be writing narratives and as well as procedural text. They re-read and edit their writing, checking their work for appropriate vocabulary, structure and meaning. They write using joined letters that are accurately formed and consistent in size. Speaking and Listening: Presentation Focus: Children will be contributing actively to class and group discussions, asking questions, providing useful feedback and making presentations. | |

Topic: Civics and Citizenship Focus: Students are introduced to the key aspects of decision making and investigate how decisions make an impact on people’s lives. They identify the reasons why we have rules – safety, fairness and inclusion. Students investigate why and how people participate in a community. The students identify and investigate specific groups within their community and their purpose. | Topic: Physical Science- Heat Energy Focus: Students will explore how heat energy is produced and identify different sources of heat. They will also investigate and conduct an experiment about how heat energy moves and flows from one object to another. Students will learn that we can measure heat using thermometers and will investigate the effects of heat energy on our everyday lives. |

Focus: In music this Term we are looking at music from around the world. We are investigating musical instruments from various cultures around the globe and researching the ways music is used in different cultures.
| Focus: Students will explore artworks from different times and cultures. They will draw upon the patterns and symbols of indigenous art to inspire their creations. Students will create art centred around the theme of change over time in Australia, using paint splatter, tissue paper collage and foam etched printing. With a focus on Winter they will create a ‘Fox in the snow’ mixed media art piece. |

Focus: In Term 3 students will focus on how to perform movement sequences which link fundamental movement skills in physical activities. They will also learn how to apply basic rules and scoring systems, and demonstrate fair play when participating in various sports. | Focus: Well-being and safety Students identify and practise strategies to promote health, safety and wellbeing. They describe how respect, empathy and valuing diversity can positively influence relationships. Students will be learning about water and fire safety.

Focus: Students will learn about God through the Bible and how God provided a way for us to know him. Each lesson will encourage students to understand that from the beginning, God had good plans for his world and created people to rule it obediently. God holds people accountable for rejecting his ways, yet also provides the way for people to be saved from the consequences of this rejection. For all who trust in God’s salvation there is the promise of a renewed relationship with God forever. | Focus: French In Term 3 students develop active-listening and comprehension skills, using contextual, grammatical, phonic and non-verbal cues. The language they use contains familiar vocabulary and simple structures. Students make statements using the present tense and present + infinitive form about themselves and their families (Je suis australien; J’habite à Brisbane). Students gain an understanding that French and English have many similarities and some interesting differences. Focus: Hindi Students will create simple imaginative texts, such as dialogues, storyboards, skits and songs that encourage exploration and enjoyment of the Hindi language. They will collaboratively create an adaptation of the story ‘Daniel and the Lion’s Den’ and present it as a skit. They will continue to work on the sounds and patterns of pronunciation and elements of the Devanagari script. Students will also be perfecting their Hindi writing skills by writing short words in Devanagari. |

Focus: Children learn to read by reading. This will be a time to promote children’s involvement with reading by reading to them and by having them interact with books through the extensive use of school library and classroom reading corner.
Students take library books home every week. Please remember to pack your child’s satchel.
| Focus: Online safety, word processing and slideshows We will learn about preventing and dealing with cyberbullying; how to use search engines efficiently; how to avoid plagiarism online; and how to be a good digital citizen. We will also start to look at word processing and slideshows. This involves- type at appropriate speed, add spelling to the dictionary, create and delete tables, insert pictures and presentation using slideshows.

Focus: Design Technologies Students will have the opportunity to create designed solutions in one of the technologies contexts: Engineering principles and systems; Food and fibre production. Students explore and learn to harness their creative, innovative and imaginative ideas and approaches to achieve designed products, services and environments. | Homework will be sent out on a Friday for the following week. It is due back in on Thursday. You can choose when to complete the work, but it must be submitted on the following Thursday.The provided homework will be meaningful, allowing for differentiation as well as extension of concepts learnt in class. Minimum of ten minutes reading every night is expected.
