English 

Reading and Viewing: 

Focus: Phonics and word knowledge and comprehension 

explicit teaching of phonemes 

multiple exposures to phonemes through meaningful texts and contexts 

explicit links to handwriting and how the upper- and lower-case graphemes are represented 

reading fluently and comprehending texts 

comprehension strategies such as meaning monitoring and inferencing  

Writing: 

Focus: Students will use procedural and persuasive texts to develop their own understanding of grammar, skills in handwriting and vocabulary. They will have the opportunity to write their own procedural texts building on their phonics knowledge and focusing grammar as a meaning-making resource. 

Explicit teaching on handwriting and sentence structure. 

Speaking and Listening: 

Focus:  Students listen to others when taking part in conversations using appropriate interaction skills. They will present their favourite books to their peers and engage in meaningful conversations about literature. 

Mathematics 

Number and Algebra: 

Focus:   Students will learn to;demonstrate the ability to engage in systematic counting (forward and backward), understand different representations of numbers, be competently carrying out simple mathematical operations, have awareness of number patterns (counting by 2s, 10s and 5s), develop a strong understanding of the Ten-ness of Ten and its subgroups, and the teen numbers.  

Measurement and Geometry: 

Focus: Students will learn to; recognise, describe and order Australian coins according to their value, measure and compare the lengths of pairs of objects using uniform informal units and tell time to the half-hour. 

Humanities - Geography 

Science 

Topic: How are Places Organised  

This term in humanities students will investigate the representation of the location of places and their features on maps and globes. They will explore location of the major geographical divisions of the world in relation to Australia. They will also observe the activities in the local place and reasons for their location, and the influence of purpose, distance and accessibility on the frequency with which people visit places. 

Topic: Spot the Difference 

This term in science students will investigate how everyday materials can be physically changed or combined with other materials in a variety of ways for particular purposes. 

 

Music 

Art 

Focus:  In Music this term we are learning about melody including high and low and a musical octave through the exploration of the Solfege notes; Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti, Do. 

 

 

Focus:  To learn about the past, students view and discuss indigenous art examples focussing on pattern symbols and colour to create a sunset and class snake mural. They view and discuss images of aboriginal cultural music making and explore patterns on instruments. Students will create a Winter themed beanie and winter landscape where they will explore patterns using repetition, line and shape.  

Physical Education 

Health 

Focus:  In Term 3 students will Identify rules and fair play when creating and participating in physical activities. They will also focus on how to Use strategies to work in group situations when participating in physical activities.  

 

 

Focus:  Bounce Back 

Students will continue to learn how to overcome setbacks through the strength of the Spirit and live in hope and faith.  

They will explore the topic of courage and understand the importance of facing their fears. They will learn about the concepts of being brave to help someone else as well as having the courage to be oneself. 

Students will discuss about gratitude and thank the Lord for his marvellous provisions. They will learn that showing appreciation for the support, kindness, friendship and love that we receive from others also helps us to fill our own ‘happiness’ buckets. 

They will also explore how positive tracking and positive thoughts can uplift us and impact our lives for the better. 

Christian Life 

L.O.T.E 

Focus:  Trusting God  

Using the stories from the Old Testament, students will learn important lessons about the faithfulness of God to his people who were called to trust him, often in difficult circumstances. They will also discover more about hos God deals patiently with his people and works powerfully to save those who trust in him. 

 

Focus:  French 

Students will continue learning the French language through games, rhymes, songs, and stories. They will be encouraged to use French for greetings and everyday interactions such as thanking and apologising. Students used French for routines such as roll call and saying the days of the week. They will discover an adaption of the book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ in French as they practise and revise counting, the days of the week and food vocabulary. They will be able to share and read a caterpillar book they made with family and friends.  

Focus: Hindi 

This Term, students will be thrilled to use their knowledge of Hindi to write a worship song! They will also create a tune for their song and be able to sing it with family and friends. 

Students will go on a mock tour of the Holy Land where they will explore and interact with each other in Hindi.  

Students will continue to work on the sounds and patterns of pronunciation and elements of the Devanagari script. They will also understand elements of Hindi grammar, such as the subject-object-verb sentence structure, question, answer and statement forms. 

Discovery Learning 

Digital Technologies 

Focus:  Students take library books home every week.  

Please remember to pack your child’s satchel.  

 

 

Focus:  Students will be introduced to common digital systems and patterns that exist within data they collect. Students organise, manipulate and present this data, including numerical, text, image, audio and video data, in creative ways to create meaning.

Focus:   

Food and Planting Preparation 

Students will investigate food and fibre production used in modern or traditional societies. They investigate food preparation techniques. They visualise, generate, and communicate design ideas through describing, drawing and modelling and use materials, components, tools, equipment and techniques to produce designed solutions safely. 

Technology and Engineering 

Students will be learning and discovering basic coding skills as they explore a variety of robots through the use of iPad apps. They will also design solutions to different digital and non-digital problems. 

Homework will be sent home every Monday (via email) and should be returned on Friday.  Students will be expected to do 15 mins of homework each weeknight with a further 5-10mins of reading (home reading books).
