Year F/1

Week 6

This week our class was finally all back together again after lots of sickness!

In Maths this week, we have been practising our numbers facts of ten. This is a really important skill for our students to have a solid understanding of number facts. The Year 1s were practising their skills in related number facts, for example, 3+4=7 is 4+3=7, 7-3=4, 7-4=3. The Foundation students were practising making facts that equal ten, such as, 4 and 6 make 10, 1 and 9 make 10.

On Thursday, we participated in a Zoom lesson with Mr Kengo from the Liberty Science Centre in New York, USA. He guided the students through an investigation of the work of bees.  He helped our students to make a model of how a bee can collect pollen by using friction and positive and negative forces.

This is our classes thoughts:

Jaxon- We saw a video about bees collecting pollen from the flowers

Sienna - Bees see different colours on the flowers which are the 'nectar guides'.

Evie - We learned about bees that get nectar from the flowers.

Hunter - Today we learned about bees. Bees have sticky legs to grab the pollen.

Billie - The bees take pollen and make it into honey.

Edith - We learned about honey bees and we did an experiment.

Aria - We were trying to see what stuck to the paper. (We made a model of how a bee collects pollen)

Rocco - Bees take pollen from the flowers.

Ivy - Bees put their heads in the flowers so they can get the pollen to take back to their hives.

Ivy asked Mr Kengo a question.
