Principal's Notes

Dear families and friends,

This week we have celebrated Science Week at school. Miss Thompson has organized some wonderful online sessions for our students to be a part of. There are more details and photos about these sessions later in the newsletter.

Four reasons why science is so important for our students:

  • It can foster a lifelong love of science
  • It gives a basic grounding in scientific concepts and scientific thinking
  • It supports the development of other skills and attributes
  • Science allows young children to develop life skills

Help needed next Tuesday

As mentioned in previous newsletters, we are getting new carpet installed in the Music Room.  We require a few helpers to help pull up the old carpet and vinyl before this can be done.  We are looking to do this next Tuesday 23rd after school.  Please let school know as soon as possible if you can help out.  The carpet is due to be installed next Friday 26th. THANK YOU!

School Council

We held our recent School Council meeting on Wednesday night over WebEx. The night was very wet and cold, so it was great timing to be able stay at home and join in from there. The following polices were approved - Attendance and Homework. These updated policies are now available on our school website. Reports were received from the Parents Club, Finance sub-committee, Building and Grounds and the Junior School Council. Thanks to all our members for their continued support of our school.

Book Character Dress Up Day

Next Thursday is our dress up day.  The kinder children have also been invited. The parade will start at 9am. All families are welcome to attend.

School Play and Presentation night

We have decided to hold separate nights for our school play and presentation night as we feel it will too long for one night.  We have set the date for our school play on Wednesday 16th November and our Presentation night for Thursday 15th December, both at the Cavendish SM Hall.  Mrs Huf and the students are even writing the play that they will perform. We are all looking forward to reading the completed script and beginning practise in readiness.

Parent Opinion Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. An email was sent home with all the necessary log in information.

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be open from Monday 15th August to Friday 16th September.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete. Please speak to me if you would like more information or the links to be sent through again.

F/1 Big Day Out

In Term 4, I am planning on taking the F/1 class on a BIG DAY OUT as part of our Camps/Excursions program at school. We will travel in a mini-bus up to Halls Gap, where we will visit the Zoo, go for a bush walk and enjoy an ice cream treat before heading home. Further details and costings will be sent home early later in the term after the date is finalised.

Best wishes to the Cavendish A grade, C Grade and U13s netballers for Saturday at Heathmere.

Have a lovely weekend.
