College News

From the Deputy Principal – Student Learning and Professional Practice

Firstly, I would like to thank the staff, students and wider St Augustine’s College community for welcoming me to this wonderful school. Everyone has been extremely friendly and supportive, which I appreciate immensely.

During the past few weeks, I have had the opportunity to meet with staff and students as well as explore the learning opportunities present here at St Augustine’s College. From bull’s eye dissections at Year 8 to singing and performing in preparation for the “Seussical” performance later this term, I have been hugely impressed by the efforts of the staff to provide an enriching and engaging learning environment, as well as seeing a positive attitude to learning by our students. Seeing our Foundation students and staff dressed up for their “100 days of school” was certainly a highlight.

With many more events to take place throughout this term, I look forward to seeing more of what this wonderful College has to offer and to share in the learning journey.

Can you help to bake cupcakes for St Augustine's Day?

As is tradition at St Augustine's, each student will be provided with a cupcake to enjoy at recess to celebrate St Augustine's Day.

We are seeking the help of families to bake a batch of cupcakes and ask that any parents or caregivers who can assist with this task complete the following Google form:

St Augustine's Feast Day Cupcakes

Cupcakes can be delivered in clearly labelled containers to the Brigidine Centre between 8.30am and 9.00am on Friday 26th August.

The College will prepare a small number of cupcakes for those students with special dietary requirements.

Student Leadership Applications

Applications for Student Leadership positions for 2023 are now open and will close on Wednesday 24th August. Please encourage your child to apply!

Students successful in gaining these positions will be expected to represent and lead the student body, demonstrate the values of the College and represent the College in the community. These are important positions, held in high regard by staff, students and parents, but they also involve time commitment from the successful applicants.

Students are required to complete a Nomination Form, write a short letter to Mr Sutton and prepare a short speech.

The positions available are:

  • College Captain (Year 12)
  • Catholic Social Teaching (CST) Leader (Year 12, Year 8, Year 4)
  • Community Leader (Year 8, Year 4)
  • House Captain (Year 12, Year 11, Year 8, Year 4)

The Application Package is available for download via SIMON and PAM Daily Notices.

Vinnies Winter Appeal

Catholic Social Teaching Leaders and other student volunteers are seeking donations of non-perishable food items to be brought to TA and placed in the Vinnies blue bag provided.

It would be wonderful if each TA could fill a bag with tinned food items, pasta, pasta sauces and other staple food items.

We will also be collecting winter woolies. Please give generously!

St Augustine's Feast Day

On Friday 26th August 2022, our whole College will celebrate the Feast of St Augustine and the conclusion of CBCA’s Book Week. A number of exciting events will take place on this day and we invite parents and friends of the College to join us from 9:00am onwards.

The outline of the day will be as follows:

8:30am - 9:00am Cupcakes delivered to the Brigidine Centre for distribution at Recess

9:00am - 9:45am (Approx) St Augustine’s Day student-led Liturgy in the Brigidine Centre

9:45am - 10:00am (Approx) 2023 College Captain applicant speeches

10:00am - 10:45am (Approx) F-6 Book Week Parade

All students are asked to dress up as their favourite book character on this day. The theme for Book Week 2022 is ‘Dreaming with eyes open…’ Parents and caregivers are most welcome to dress up too! Remember it has been very cold, so warm clothes or coats for after the parade might be needed.
