From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Years 1/2 Learning Space

In my last newsletter report, I highlighted that the new Years 1 and Year 2 Learning Centre was near completion and students will begin the transition to the new classrooms shortly. I am excited to announce that our wonderful Years 1 and Year 2 students have transitioned into their new learning space successfully. I would like to acknowledge our Teachers and Learning Support Officers who have ensured such a smooth transition. Years 1 and Year 2 parents and caregivers are welcome to join us for classroom visits next Monday, 15th August, at 9.00am or Tuesday 16th August, at 3.30pm.

Family Community Partnerships

The vision for the St Augustine’s Family Community Partnerships framework is to build sustainable and effective partnerships between all members of the school community, including school leaders, staff, families and students.  At its heart, family engagement is about relationships.  At St Augustine’s, we strive to ensure that our teachers and support staff make our families feel welcome by listening to and honouring the stories, culture, traditions and relationships of the family and the community.  It is crucial that our teachers connect families to what is happening in their classrooms; this is the essential link – families having a voice in this learning partnership as we work together to create positive attitudes to learning.

I am grateful to our parents who have expressed their interest in becoming a member of the Family Community Partnerships. The College Leadership Team is excited to work with you to strengthen the relationship between the College and parent community. Our first meeting took place this week and the next meeting will take place early in Term 4. If you are interested in attending this meeting and joining the Family Community Partnerships initiative, please do not hesitate to contact Kylie Morrissey at kyliemorrissey@sakyabram.vic.edu.au.

Foundation to Year 6 Athletics Carnival

As I write this newsletter article, I am disappointed to announce that due to poor weather forecast, the Foundation to Year 6 Athletics Carnival has been postponed. This has been communicated with parents via Operoo and social media. Classes will run as normal. Mr Michael Hill will communicate with the College community with an alternative date.

Science Week

Next week is National Science Week. The theme for 2022 is Glass: More than meets the eye. It is based on the UN International Year of Glass. It will celebrate the many roles that glass plays in our lives – from phone screens and optical fibre, to glassware in labs – plus investigating glass as a part of our sustainable future. The uses for and intrinsic nature of glass in science, make it a suitable topic for investigation across all strands of science education.

Throughout next week, activities will take place in our science labs each lunchtime and I would encourage students to join in the wonderful activities planned. You may also find this resource book of science experiences to do at home fun to read with your children:
