Huntingtower School Supplies to Palaui Island

For 3 years the Junior School has been supporting remote Pilipino communities through the donation of second hand and unused school supplies. These supplies are given to Chris Banks from Zoos Victoria who coordinates the Zoo's international conservation partnerships. He couriers the supplies on to the Mabuwaya Foundation who supports local communities to care for the critically endangered Philippines crocodile. By supporting the communities with our unused school supplies we are also supporting their efforts to save this endangered species.

Recently Chris Banks visited the Mabuwaya Foundation in the Philippines and personally delivered some of the school supplies that our Junior School students donated at the end of 2021. So lovely to see a small gesture is making such a big impact on others.

Junior School Wellbeing

Our Year 5’s are currently learning about their emotions, thoughts and ways that they can self regulate when they are having a challenging time. This week they learnt about different breathing exercises. They also practised using different tools to help calm them, including mindfulness drawing, using sensory tools and calming toys, sandbox play and spent time in our Sensory Pod.

Indonesian Incursion

Grade 4 students enjoyed a very special incursion with visiting contemporary Batik artist Dias Prabu from Indonesia. In collaboration with our Indonesian Department at Huntingtower, the artists were invited to share the traditional artform using tjanting tools and melted wax. Grade 4 students had a wonderful time learning about the process and experimenting with making different marks and patterns on cotton.

Well done Grade 4s – what a wonderful experience!

Chris Kennet Visit

This week the Junior School library welcomed writer and illustrator Mr Chris Kennet who spoke with the foundation and ELC 3 students. A few students recognised the books and drawings, so it was a real treat for the children to learn from Chris in person!
