George H (Year 9)

Well done to George who competed in 9 events in the 2022 Victorian Age Short Course Championships recently! This is one of the best ever results from a Huntingtower swimmer. George won 5 gold medals and 4 silver medals in the meet which was spread over three days. An amazing effort.

Emily M-T (Year 10)

Congratulations to Emily who recently competed in the VSU Highland Dancing State Championships, she danced beautifully and won! Emily has worked exceptionally hard for the honour and sacrificed much to dance. A terrific accomplishment, well done Emily!

EISM Chess

Huntingtower Middle Years and Open Secondary Chess teams once again successfully defended their EISM Chess titles with emphatic victories over the competing schools. Both teams therefore qualify for State Finals in October. This is the eleventh consecutive year that Huntingtower has qualified for State Finals.

Top performers in each team were:

Middle Years: Rey D, Benny C, Kallol S and Lin W

Open Secondary: Michael C, Jackie W, Lawrence H, Liam G

Melbourne University Maths Competition

The Melbourne University Maths Competition is an internationally recognised event. It is a challenging paper, with a series of difficult questions. Students are simply given blank paper and asked to present their solution to each of them. These are marked firstly on correctness, but then graded on the level of sophistication and elegance in the response. For example, concise mathematical notation is assumed, long winded worded explanations do not make the grade. There are three prizes awarded for the best papers in each division. Outstanding awards are few, and awarded to those who have shown excellence but did not quite make it to the top three. Merits are then awarded to those who presented promising papers, but were not quite at the Outstanding level.

Huntingtower entered a group of Year 8 students into the Junior Division. I am delighted to announce that Ron X and Lin W received Outstanding Awards, and Rishan D received a Merit Award. This is an exceptional result, and I heartily congratulate all three boys.
