Principal's Report
Dear Families,
It has certainly been a week of chilly starts to the day!
SCHOOL VISIT
On Tuesday, eight staff members travelled to New Gisborne to observe the Little Learners Love Literacy approach in action. The trip was certainly very beneficial, and we have come away with a deeper understanding of this approach to the teaching of reading, writing, and spelling.
CURRICULUM DAY
Monday 1st August is a Curriculum Day. All staff will be attending a professional learning session facilitated by Andrew Fuller. He is a clinical psychologist. Andrew Fuller works with many schools and communities in Australia and internationally, specialising in the wellbeing of young people and their families. He is a Fellow of the Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Learning and Educational Development at the University of Melbourne.
SCHOOL UNIFORMS
At Toolamba we take pride in our uniform. Uniforms have for centuries represented belonging, values, traditions and expected codes of conduct. A uniform is a symbol of something beyond the material, stitch work and colours from which it is assembled.
Recently we have had to remind students about the wearing of our correct school uniform. I have included as section of our Uniform Policy for people to refer to.
Toolamba Primary School Uniform
- Red windcheaters, red windcheater jacket, blue rain jacket and polo shirts are to have the school logo
Summer Uniform
- Girls: Red and white check dress (white collar and cuffs) or red polo shirt and navy shorts/skirt/skorts
- Boys: Navy blue shorts and red polo shirt
N.B. Grade 6 students can choose to wear the nominated Grade 6 polo shirt.
Winter Uniform
- Girls: Red windcheater, navy blue skirt or navy-blue track pants (no stripes)
- Boys: Red windcheater, navy blue track pants (no stripes)
N.B. If a long-sleeved shirt is worn under a polo shirt it must be the colour of their T shirt
Hats
- Wide brimmed navy-blue hats, in line with school policy, are to be worn outside during Terms 1 & 4. Hats are not compulsory for Terms 2 & 3.
- A Navy-Blue Beanie with a school logo may be worn in the cooler months.
Coats, scarves, gloves and jackets are for outside use only.
Footwear
- Appropriate footwear allows for the safe participation in active playground pursuits and Physical Education/Sport lessons. Shoes worn to school are to be predominantly white or black; if they have shoelaces they must be of a matching colour.
- Thongs, slip-on shoes, sandals, open-toed shoes, work boots and ‘skate’ shoes are considered inappropriate for children at school. All children are expected to securely fasten their shoes.
- All children are expected to remove their outside shoes prior to entering the building.
- The School Council believes the removal of outside shoes before entering the school
- provides the most effective physical barrier for maintaining a hygienic and clean
- classroom environment for all students. The wearing of socks (plain white or blue)
- indoors is compulsory, with the wearing of hard soled slippers strongly recommended.
- Bare feet in the classroom will not be accepted.
Jewellery
- Jewellery should be limited to sleepers or studs and only necklaces to be worn within the collar for safety reasons.
Hair
- Shoulder length hair or longer is to be tied back at all times for health reasons.
- Headbands, hair ties etc. are to be red, blue or white.
Makeup
- Makeup and nail polish are not part of the school uniform.
