Learning and Teaching

100 days of  Prep

A big congratulations to our amazing foundation students as they have completed 100 days of school this week.  What a wonderful achievement.

Today the children celebrated by dressing up in anything “100” and completing a range of fun activities. They also received a special momento from our senior students congratulating them.

It has been a fantastic year so far, with lots of learning taking place as well as friendships being made, the children have had a lot of fun and participated in many different experiences so far in their first year of school.  We look forward to the remainder of the year and hope you also enjoy celebrating with your child.

A big thank you to the Junior teachers for all their work this year in teaching our Foundation students and to parents/carers for the support you have provided.

SPORTS NEWS

SENIOR SPORTS

Today Grade 5/6 had their first inter-school sports match. They played Hampton Park Primary School. We hope they had a great time and enjoyed their first match as well as winning in some of the sports. Next week they will have training for their next match on Friday August 12th against St Kevin’s.

Grade 3/4 will continue their winter inter-school sports rotations next Friday.

JUNIOR TAEKWONDO

Thanks to a Sporting Schools grant we have now organised Taekwondo Clinics for our Juniors. They will take place in Week 5 and then Week 7, 8 and 9. The clinic days will be the same as previous terms except for a few days as a result of clashes in our calendar:

Monday LS3 (Except Week 7 – Wednesday August 24th instead of Monday)

Tuesday LS2

Friday LS1 (Except Week 8 – Thursday September 1st instead of Friday)

Parents will be able to find additional information via Operoo. We ask all parents to acknowledge the Operoo and ensure all Juniors are wearing their sports uniform and bring their drink bottle on their clinic days.

DISTRICT ATHLETICS

During Week 7 of Term 3 some of our Senior Students will be involved in District Athletics where we compete against other schools in our district.

We have commenced to sort out our team. We will continue trialling hurdles, 800m and events where students were absent next Tuesday 2nd August. Students are able to enter 2 individual events and a relay. Once we have finished trialling the events, an Operoo note will be put out to parents with more details.

SWIMMING

As parents are aware, after a break of two years, much needed swimming lessons will again take place in Term 4. Swimming is an essential part of the Physical Education Curriculum and we are obliged to provide swimming lessons for students. As such, it is expected that all students attend the swimming lessons. Exemptions will only be accepted with a medical certificate provided from a doctor.

Students have brought home either a General Swimming Ability form or a Squad Swimming Ability form. We ask that parents complete these forms and return to the Home Group teacher as soon as possible. The pool have requested for these forms to be filled in due to the large gap in time since the students’ last swimming lessons. They will also be assessed during their first swimming lesson in Week 1 of Term 4.

We ask parents to please give permission via Operoo, ensuring student profiles are up to date. We would also like parent assistance, especially with the Juniors changing after their lesson. Details are available via Operoo and parents can offer their assistance there also. Remember to assist you must have a current Working With Children Check and it must be registered with the School Office.

The Victorian State Government in conjunction with Lifesaving Victoria have published some material explaining the importance of school swimming lessons. I have included the links to this material for your reference.
