From the Principal

The best portion of a good person's life is their little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love.
 - William Wordsworth

When we pause to give thanks to God at the end of each semester, we remind ourselves as part of the service, that what makes Lakeside College the wonderful community it is, are the thousands of little acts of care and service which often go unnoticed.

I have been thinking quite a lot about this idea and the words of William Wordsworth this week in light of hearing that our own Margaret the crossing supervisor has been nominated for crossing supervisor of the year. Well done Margaret - we are so proud of you!

Each day our community sees so many little acts of care which help us be who we are. We see the parent carrying their child’s bag so they can run ahead to hug their friend. The older students bring a younger student into the office when they fall or simply sit with a child who appears sad. We see staff gently guiding students back to the task at hand when others would bark orders instead. All of these things combine to make us who we are.

These smaller acts don’t make it to Instagram or the front page of the newspaper. There aren’t awards for these things or financial incentives. We do these things as a response to a loving God who guides our lives and cares for us.

Jesus said

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them…So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honoured by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret.” (Matthew 6:1-4)

As we look around our College we do not have to look far to see the Gospel in the quiet, caring actions that many take.

May Christ continue to strengthen us as we go about this important humble work.

Blessings

Tom
