Archbishop of Sydney’s Award for Student Excellence 2022

It is with pleasure that we proclaim that the St Patrick’s College, Strathfield Archbishop’s Award for Student Excellence for 2022 goes to Joseph Tannous. Below is the citation that was read for him at the ceremony last Friday. Congratulations Joseph! We are very proud of you!

Joseph is an outstanding member of St Patrick’s College, Strathfield and is heavily involved with the faith aspects of our community. He displays this leadership through his participation as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and his presence at school Masses, as well as in his role as a College Prefect. He leads our Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet groups in the Chapel each week and he is a passionate and key member of the Social Justice Action Group. Joseph’s approach to a holistic education can be seen through his excellent academic success and his commitment to the Social Justice Service program even in difficult times, earning him the annual Antherretyeke Award for Justice in 2021. Not only is Joseph a committed member of his local parish, St Patrick’s Mortlake, he is also a regular member of the St Joseph’s Croydon Youth Group.

SOL Service Highlights

It is clear that many boys across the College are engaging well with the SOL Service program and have achieved great things. So many serve the other without recognition or reward and I commend them on their work. If your son hasn’t started, hopefully some plans can be made for the upcoming holidays.

I commend the following Junior School boys for their service with Kids Giving Back last holidays. They helped prepare meal and care packs to give to various charities around Sydney, and prepared clean clothing for many vulnerable people across the city:

  • Marcus Geagea
  • Lucas Sacco
  • Oliver Miliauskas.

I also commend the following young men from Year 10 who volunteered all day in the rain at the Strathfield Council Spring Fair, doing whatever was required of them to help the smooth running of the day:

  • Jack Fague
  • Julian Geronimo
  • Frank Mazzucco
  • Henry O'Reilly
  • Nicholas Rahme
  • Dario Zagami.

Keep up the great work boys and show the world that you care about the community you belong to.

There is a South African concept called 'umbuntu' which basically means ‘I am because you are’. It reminds us that we are ONE human family, and we can only truly exist in goodness when we recognise that our being is tied up with that of others. We cannot exist alone and thus we must work to bring more equity to all, or even just help another when there is a need.

God bless your service.

The College Supports Sustainable and Fair-Trade Purchasing

For a number of years now the College has been purchasing a lot of our sporting balls through RREPP who produce Fair Trade products. These products ensure that no human slavery or unfair production practices are used in the making and selling of them. In an attempt to go carbon neutral, RREPP are now running a program to plant trees based on the amount of emissions and landfill they (and we) contribute to. Our most recent order of footballs has allowed for 100 trees to be planted, while helping people in majority world countries earn a fair living wage for their work. To learn more about this new initiative you can visit this site https://rrepp.com.au/pages/carbon-offset and to learn more about Fair Trade in general see here - https://www.fairtrade.net/
