Co-curricular - Junior Sport

Over the past few days, it seems that the world has once again changed. Scenes of people’s grief on the television and the media coverage of the Queen’s passing have certainly shown the trials and tribulations that exist in life in a very matter of fact way. It is events such as these that often bring about the opportunities for moments of reflection and contemplation.

Over the past few days, having spoken with friends and family about this unprecedented event in most of our lives, I have come back to the importance of being resilient and being able to cope with disappointment and loss. Sport is a great teacher in this regard. Often sport can be a microcosm of what we experience throughout our lives and gives us the opportunity to develop these life skills in small, manageable amounts.

Sport of all types provides opportunity to grow. It teaches us to be humble in success and valiant in defeat. To pick ourselves up and to keep going in times of struggle and to trust in the people around us. Most importantly, sport teaches us that our emotions are all ok. We are able to feel both good and bad and with time and space, we are always able to move forward. Whether it be competitive or recreational, there is no doubt about the positive effect sport has on us as individuals.

With Term 4 fast approaching, the draft draw will be made available in Week 10 (next week) through the St Patrick’s College App. Please note that this is a draft and will change regularly throughout the term. The purpose of releasing the draft draw is to help families plan the term ahead. Please refer to the weekly draw for confirmation of times and venues of games during the season. The weekly draw will have the most up to date information and will mirror what the boys are given in their classrooms each week. The Term 4 training schedule will also be made available at this time.

As we move into spring, the club Winter sport seasons have now come to an end. Over the past few weeks, there have been many Junior School boys involved in grand finals for football, rugby league and rugby union. There was a strong contingent of Junior school boys playing for the Old Boys club in the 11s, 12s and 13-year sides. Along with these boys, we had a number of students represent a variety of teams across the codes. Congratulations to all those boys for making their finals. No matter the result on the day, you can all be very proud of yourselves for getting to the final game of the season. I look forward to seeing you back out on the paddock next year for the College Winter sport season. Hopefully continuing your good form from this year.

Finally, I would like to leave you with this thought from Michael Phelps, former USA swimmer:

“You can't put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get.”
