Intermediate Girls Regional Soccer

Last Thursday our 9/10 girls soccer team went out to play at the regionals competition. They had 2 games to play to make the finals and won them both 6-0 and 6-1 which led them into the finals against Viewbank college. In the final they  scored 2 goals early and were up 2-1 at half time which set them up well for the second half where they scored 5 more goals, winning 8-1. Good job to Lyla for her 10 goals across the whole tournament!

The team are now heading into the State competition at the end of the month.

Senior Girls Regional Soccer

On Monday last week, the senior girls soccer team played 4 amazing games giving us the ticket into the state competition! We had a mix of Year 10 and 11 players who all worked so well together, the team was positive and encouraging having heaps of laughs on the side lines.  With a 5-2 win in our first game, we were off to a great start. The girls’ skills were shown throughout all of the games with some great goals from Rainer, Nessa, May and many more! In some tough situations off and on the pitch our team represented Northcote in a respectful and principled way allowing us to have an awesome day. I had the best time coaching and seeing all the girls enjoy themselves. A huge thank you to Mr Bartholomew for supporting us throughout the day and a shoutout to the best bench warmers and your motivational comments.

Senior Boys Soccer

Senior Boys Soccer played the Regional Finals as the Darebin qualifiers. Northcote took a strong squad to Darebin International Sports Centre. The boys showed great leadership and communication by organising themselves into formation. Our first game against Illim, we won 2-1 with Matt Stephens with two assists and Josh Gentile with a late winner.

Game 2 vs Mill Park, we Lost 2-0. This decided the day with Mill Park topping our group. A contentious offside call but we can had no complaints with the second goal.

Our final game vs Viewbank, we won 4-0, although it ended up being a dead rubber. Kai Shookry curled a great goal in the far post from outside the box.

Year 12 Students vs Teachers lunchtime games

During Friday lunch of Week 5 - The first round of Year 12 Students versus Teacher Games was played. The first sport was volleyball. It was so excellent seeing so many staff and year 12 students get involved, also a huge thanks to everyone who came down and watched from the entire school, the gym was packed!A massive thanks and shout out to Sylvie Saunders, our head referee. Sylvie did an amazing job! Also a big thanks to our sideline umpires from year 7. Teachers came away with the first win with 2 sets to zero. It was really fantastic seeing everyone have so much fun. Year 9  3 x 3 Basketball competition

Last Wednesday at lunchtime, the year 9s kicked off their 3 x 3 mixed basketball competition. A large crowd gathered in the gym to watch the teams play, giving the players lots of encouragement when they were on the court. Each game went for 6 minutes and every team played twice. There were 8 mixed teams that entered  and every team played incredibly well, with some standouts being Vic Metro and the Turbo Turtles, who were undefeated in their matches. There are 3 rounds to go, so there is still plenty of opportunity for students to come and watch the games. The competition runs every Wednesday in the gym and the fixture is posted on the year 9 communications teams page weekly.
