Principal's Report - Mr Pitt

Dear Parents/ Carers,

WELCOME BACK!

Welcome back to Term 3. Even though we continue to live in COVID-smart times, we are looking forward to a fun-filled busy term for everyone. A very special welcome to new families who have commenced at Fairvale PS this term. Communication at our school remains to be very strong as there are so many ways to stay in touch with what is happening in and around the school. Parents/ Carers can stay in touch by downloading the School App, accessing the school website, checking our school Facebook page, liking our Twitter posts and logging in and checking out your child’s Seesaw account.

COVID-SMART LAYERED SETTINGS AT OUR SCHOOL

Students and staff must stay home if sick. If your child is showing COVID-19 symptoms, they should stay home and get tested (RAT or PCR). Always register a positive RAT with Service NSW. Students and staff should not return to school until they have returned a negative RAT/ PRC and are symptom free. We will continue to:

  • Maximise natural ventilation
  • Boost daily cleaning
  • Focus on personal hygiene
  • Strongly encourage COVID-19 and flu vaccination for all eligible staff, students and their families
  • Strongly encourage mask-wearing for all students and staff, particularly in the first 4 weeks of term
  • Maintain strict requirements for close contacts attending school.

NOTES HOME WEDNESDAY

This term we will be trialling a new system of sending notes home. Rather than sending notes home whenever we need to, we have chosen one day per week for this occur – this day will be WEDNESDAY. So please look out for notes being sent home on Wednesdays. A school envelope will be provided for notes that require money. This means children can complete the envelope at home, and when back at school just place it in the silver box located at the office.

BIKE VISITS WITH MR PITT

This last fortnight I have been very busy visiting our K-2 children who receive additional support during small groups.

K-2 EAL/D – What a great start to the term it has been, visiting many students during EAL/D lessons and activities. EAL/D stands for English as an Additional Language/ Dialect and at Fairvale PS we have experienced EAL/D teachers who work with many children on a daily basis. During my visits I saw lots of engaging interaction from the children whilst they participated in each lesson. It is always such a thrill for me to visit these lessons and see and hear the amazing progress being made. Check out some of the photos in this edition of the newsletter.

EDUCATION WEEK

Education Week is celebrated across New South Wales next week. The theme this year is ‘Creating Futures – Education changes lives’. A flyer has been included in this edition of the newsletter and one was also sent home last Wednesday. At this time, we are continuing on with our week as planned; however last minute changes may occur to our Family Day. We do ask that parents/ carers who do attend our Family Day follow the COVID-smart guidelines we implement of the day.  This Friday is the last day to pre-order for the sausage sizzle.

SCIENCE WEEK 2022—GLASS: MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

This year Science Week will be held from Monday 15 August to Friday 19 August. The theme this year is ‘Glass: more than meets the eye’. Children received information regarding the Science Week Project last week. This year all projects will be on display in the library throughout Week 5. Everyone will have the opportunity to view the projects as part of our Science Week celebration. We hope that many children and/or families will submit a project. Projects can be individually or family designed under one of the 3 areas: Artwork, Digital Representation or a 3D model. Classes will also be involved in some fun science experiments early in the week. If you need any more information, check out the flyer in the newsletter or speak to Miss Rosic, Mrs Tudman, Mrs Sloggett, Miss Nak or Mr Hopkins—Science and Technology Project Team.
