Divisional Cross Country

On Tuesday 6th June, 9 students attended district cross country at Yarra Glen, Race course.

The 9/10 age group ran 2 km. The 11/12 km ran 3 km.

Here are the results;

11/12 girls: Lenka W: 23 place, Amber K: 39th .

11 /12 boys: Mitchell W: didn’t compete.

11 girls: Alex E: 34th.

11 boys: Jackson P: 8th, Jinwei L: 32 nd, Lachlan S: 35th, Harley U: 46th.

9/10 boys: Kieren H. : 3rd place.

This a great result for our small school, such excellent result and participation.

District Cross Country 2023

Wednesday May 24t h at Quambee reserve.

What a cold, brisk, sunny wonderful morning. Competition was high as we were competing with Warrandyte south district, 8 schools in total. The atmosphere was so optimistic. 😊Thank you so much to staff, Peter Moore, Mary M (ES) plus parent helpers Beck Trevillian, Tossy McMahon and Mel Thompson. We also had Lisa Burt and Brahim Stewart drive to 3/ 4 camp to pick up six students so they could participate. You are all invaluable and so awesome! Also, big thank you to the dedicated support from other parent/ guardian supporters. We had a fantastic morning and the whole Marlborough runners made us so proud. Every student did their Personal Best. It was so good to see parents, students, and friends all cheering for Marlborough P. S. Thank you to all the following students who ran and did their Personal Best.

You all represented Marlborough P. S competitively and with great sportsmanship. You should feel proud of your achievements. Marlborough P.S. was placed fourth overall, out of eight schools. This is a terrific achievement for a small school. We also came 2nd in 12/13 Girls, 3rd in 11 boys, 4 th in 12/13 Boys , 5th in 11 Girls, 5th in 9 /10 Boys and 8th overall in 9/10 Girls.

Royal Childrens Hospital

On Friday 23rd June (last day of term) Junior School Council will be fundraising for the Royal Childrens hospital.

The funds the RCH receive go towards life saving care, programs for sick children to help them develop new skills and resilence, it also enables the RCH to pioneer ground-breaking research and purchase the latest equipment.

If you would like to donate its simple, heres how :

On Friday 23rd come dressed in free dress and bring a gold coin donation.

Winter Shelter

On Friday 2nd June, Marlborough Primary held a fundraiser for Winter Shelter. Students and staff were asked to dress in pyjamas, oodies, onesies or comfy clothes and donate a gold coin to help raise money for this very special organisation. Marlborough raised an amazing $308.40. We are so proud of our community for reaching into their pockets for this worthy cause. A huge thank you to Remy, Lilly, Lenka and Amber who organised this fundraiser!

ART NEWS

Thank you so much for all the brown paper bag donations. We have HEAPS now, so do not need any more until next year at this stage!

We are in need of some old book pages, maps or music sheets that we could use for some upcoming collage projects if anyone has any that they no longer need. They can be left at the office or brought with your child to Art class. Many thanks.

Fire Education by Fire Rescue Victoria

This week our Foundation students had an exciting incursion from Fire Rescue Victoria!

Our students took part in the first stage of their Fire Education program. Firefighters from our local FRV fire station, ran an interactive presentation about the work of firefighters, and what to do if a fire starts.

Students learnt:

What makes a good fire and what makes a bad fire?
To Crawl Low, and Go, Go, Go in smoke
Safe Meeting Place
What is an Emergency?
How to contact Fire rescue - 000 (Triple Zero)

We can’t wait until next week when they visit again and we get to see the firefighting equipment and truck.

Regional Cross Country

Marlborough Primary school had two competitors make it through to Regional cross country, held Tuesday 13 th June at Yarra Glen racecourse. To have two students compete from a small school at Regions is such a huge achievement. Big congratulations to Jackson P (11 boys), and Kieren F.H. (9- 10 Boys) for competing. Many schools competed from the private and public sector from the Eastern Region of Melbourne.

The track was very muddy and slow as all the high school students ran in the morning.

Jackson competed first and did extremely well in the conditions coming 40, top half in his event out of 97 competitors. It was a grueling 3 km. Such an amazing run, Jackson you make us all proud.

Kieran’s race was last, a 2 km course. There were 93 competitors in this race, more like a sprint as the winning time was 7.57 minutes. Kieren ran a personal best in the mud and came 14th his time 8.46.

Kieren is reserve for The State Cross Country event on July 4th at Albert Park track. This

is a wonderful, fantastic opportunity for Kieren and we wish him the very best. I believe this is a first in the history of Marlborough PS to have a competitor compete at a state level for Cross country. You should feel very proud of your sensational running.

Positive Start Program

All classes during PE for one week experienced a positive start program to AFL run by AFL Victoria.

AFL skills of handball and kicking were taught by Jack. (Wednesday) and Bailey (Thursday)

The aim is to increase student’s participation in fitness and skills using AFL skills.

Indonesian

Statewide Indonesian Speaking Competition Results

On Thursday 1st June, we had over 20 students enter Sayembara Lisan, an Indonesian Oral Competition, run in conjunction with VILTA (Victorian Indonesian Language Teachers’ Association) and the Asia Institute, University of Melbourne.

It was an amazing effort to have so many students compete and congratulations to all of you. We had Bu Devathas, the Indonesian teacher from Heathmont College visit our school to judge our students as part of the Maroondah region. The competition included simple questions and the students either sang a song, recited a poem or engaged in conversation in Indonesian.

I am very proud to announce that we have 10 students who have made it through to the finals.

Congratulations to the following students:

Level 2 (Grade 3/4 students): Oscar B, Hannah D, Matthew R

Level 3(Grade 5/6 students): Zoe N, Brandon P, Willow J-B, Xanthe N

The finals will be held on Saturday 22nd of July at Melbourne High School. We wish you all “Semoga sukses!”
