VOCABULARY

Inference - process of arriving at a certain conclusion using reasoning or evidence

 

Character traits - are a combination of the different qualities that define a character, such as thoughts, feelings, personality, and the choices they make

 

Underlying message - The message that someone is trying to communicate


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Get your child to edit the narrative that they wrote a few weeks ago by looking for many mistakes that they may have made whilst writing their story.

Remind them to search for:

  • Spelling 
  • Punctuation 
  • Meaning 
  • Grammar
  • Structure 
  • Capital letters
  • Language features 
  • Whether it flows and makes sense

Get your child to listen to the audio/read aloud of ‘Its mine’ by Leo Lionni and make inferences about what they believe the overall message of the text is about.

Using the sentence stem - I infer that the message of the story is… I think this because… 

Remind them to consider the character, what they are doing and why they might be acting that way to conclude what the overall message may be
