JUNIOR SCHOOL
Dear Junior School Parents/Carers and Students
Congratulations to our Junior School students for completing a very successful first semester at Frankston High School and embracing so many opportunities within and beyond the classroom. Although we are approaching the holiday break, we have not seen too many signs of things winding down! It has been a busy period of assessment, with students revising for Common Assessment Tasks (CATs) and the end-of-semester Maths exams. More broadly, Year 7 and 8 students have represented the school in interschool sport, the cast of The Addams Family had a full-day rehearsal ahead of the show’s premiere in just over a month, and clubs and activities remain in full swing. Our Training Band has also completed its first term of rehearsal together.
End of semester reports can form the basis of meaningful reflection and goal-setting after two terms of learning. Reports were published yesterday can be accessed via Compass. These summarise students’ growth and achievements through:
- an assessment of learning behaviours demonstrated in each subject, in line with our school values
- completion of learning outcomes
- achievement on CATs - tasks at the end of a sequence of learning that are common to all students in all classes across the subject
- a comment about areas for continued growth and learning.
After reading the report with your child, we encourage you to engage in a conversation to celebrate successes and identify areas for growth, considering what steps could be taken to work towards improvement. The aggregation of small, actionable steps can amount to massive progress over time (see the work of James Clear for more on this). If, from your discussion, your child can commit to one action they will take, they can start Semester 2 with a clear focus. Actions could include:
- asking one question in class per week
- reading for 10 minutes each night
- spending 5 minutes each night writing the following day’s classes in the student diary and checking for upcoming assessments
- choosing a club (e.g. Homework Club, Semper Squad, Chess Club) to attend in Term 3

Year 8 Respect Program
This year we are proud to be launching the inaugural Year 8 Respect Program, a two-part series of workshops and experiences for our Year 8 students to support their development as individuals and members of the community, within and beyond school. This program has been designed to meet the needs of our young people and is an important extracurricular event to broaden and enhance students' experience at school and sense of wellbeing. The program includes:
- A Workshop Day, to be held on Friday 14 July, facilitated by highly regarded organisations Flourish Girl and The Man Cave.
- A Challenge Program, to be held across two days, with half the cohort attending on Monday 31 July and the other half attending on Monday 7 August, at The Summit in Trafalgar East.
We have received overwhelmingly positive feedback about the impact of these programs at similar schools and confident our Year 8 students will benefit immensely from their engagement with both days. Consent and payment are now able to be provided via Compass. Please the Year 8 Coordinators if you have any questions about this upcoming program.
JUNIOR SCHOOL CLASS CAPTAINS
Congratulations to our Year 7 and 8 Class Captains who have now commenced meeting regularly to advocate for those in their classes and have a voice in matters related to their school experiences.
