Hands on Learning (HoL)
Hands on Learning (HoL) has been busy during Term 2!
We have focused on the needs in our precinct, and have cleaned out the garden space, tidied and improved the workshop and hut, repaired the retaining wall on the path leading to the senior oval and kept our batteries full with delicious cooked lunches!
Due to the great success of the benches we built for the Senior Campus in Term 1, we have been commissioned for more, this time to be installed on the 7-10 Campus. We are in the early stages of this build, using a new design which is called a ‘Reflection Seat’. This curved design has lead us to learn and practice measuring angles, cutting straight lines and practicing our drilling skills. This project will continue in Term 3, when our HoL students will complete and install the benches for student use.
The HoL cohort has been expanding quickly, this term we have welcomed six new students from Years 7-10. They are contributing to the teams well, making new friends and bringing new skills and experiences to our group. We made more time for games and social activities this term, getting out the Giant Jenga and making our own wooden set of Kub (a Swedish game a bit like bowls!)
We value the hard work and commitment that our students give to the projects at HoL. Even more than this, we appreciate our students being willing to reflect and grow as individuals and as a team.
We look forward to a busy and rewarding Term 3, with lots of projects underway!
