CURRICULUM FOCUS

In Mathematics this week, we are learning to develop the multiplication strategies of repeated addition and using number lines to problem solve.

VOCABULARY

Multiplication: The process of multiplying one number by another number to find the product (answer).

Repeated addition: Adding equal groups, or the same number, over and over again to solve multiplication. For example: to solve 3 x 5 we could add 5, 3 times to get the product (answer): 5 + 5 + 5 = 15.

Number line: A line which has numbers in sequence. Students can use this to solve multiplication problems by jumping by the first number in the multiplication problem the right number of times to find the product (answer).

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Give your child the multiplication problems below and ask them to solve them using repeated addition. They could then draw a number line on a piece of paper and solve each problem again using this strategy to confirm if their first answers were correct or not.

3 x 45 x 86 x 54 x 64 x 75 x 9
