CURRICULUM FOCUS

In Reading this week, we are learning to determine the important information within a non-fiction text.

VOCABULARY

Non-Fiction: A text type that is based on facts, e.g. reports, biographies etc.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

After reading a non-fiction text together, ask your child some questions regarding what the main idea of the text is and what the important information was.

Some guiding questions you may like to ask include:

  • What was the text about?
  • What was the author trying to tell you?
  • What were the three most important facts?
  • What were some of the supporting details?
