Acting Principal's

Report

Mr Lockhart

Welcome back to everyone in our community, particularly our students.  I hope everyone had a well-earned break and are ready to engage for another successful term.

New Students

We welcome back to our college, Payton Tatt-Frater, she has settled in and adjusted well.  We also welcome Jamie and Nate Turner who have both relocated from Melbourne. Also to Piper Denney who started in Year 5 on Tuesday.

Athletics Carnival - Week 5 – 12/8

Ansett won the Swimming, Jacka won the Cross Country……who will win the Athletics and have the honour of winning the Sporting Aggregate for 2022?

Remember our SWPBS expected behaviours from our matrix are ‘I will participate’ and

‘I will keep trying’. Therefore, to help your house win, you need to attend dressed in the most magnificent house colours, participate in as many events as possible and keep trying your hardest.  Every event you particpate means points for your house, most points wins…. simple isn’t it!

Prizes to be won……

Prize A– any homeroom that has 100% attendance to our athletics carnival will receive a free whole class lunch at our new College Café.

Prize B – any homeroom that has 100% participation, (students participate in at least one event) will receive a free whole class lunch at our College Café. Attendance level must be acceptable – above 85%.

Prize C – we have 22 College Café Vouchers to the value of $5 and $10. Each homeroom will be allocated two vouchers to award to the best dressed students in that homeroom.  Your homeroom teacher will decide; get thinking, get organised and get dressed up!

Think about it……if everybody in your homeroom attends, if everybody in your homeroom participates and you are the best dressed, you could be eating from our new College Café for ever! Imagine all the hedgehogs you could eat! Wow Wee!

Mr Forrest is going down…………..Go Ansett!!!!!

Learning Conversations – Wednesday July 26th

Learning Conversations are taking place Week 3, Wednesday 26th July from 1.30pm to 6.00pm.  Thank-you to the parents and guardians who have already booked appointments, if you haven’t yet please do so.

This is a normal school day for all students, Year 9s will still attend NCTTC. Students are expected to attend Learning Conversations and after 3.25pm school uniform is not required. We would like to see as many parents/guardians as possible as it is an opportunity to discuss in more detail your child’s progress in the first semester. It is also valuable time to set goals for the second half of the year.

If your child's numeracy and literacy levels are below standard or their attendance is below 95%, expect a phone call followed by an email requesting you book a time to discuss your child’s learning.

To ensure you gain the most out of the learning conversations, below is a list of questions we encourage you and your child to ask the teacher in the meetings. (The college will provide a prompt card with these questions when you arrive for the interviews)

Student Questions:

  1. How am I progressing in this subject?
  2. Have I made good progress so far this year?
  3. What are my strengths and weaknesses?
  4. What should be the focus of my learning this semester?

Parent Questions:

  1. How does my child interact with other students?
  2. Does my child contribute to class discussion and appear happy in the subject?
  3. How does my child’s performance compare to that of previous years? (May not be relevant in some year levels/subjects)
  4. What can I do at home to help with my child's learning?

VCE / VM Information Night

Just a reminder to all our 2024 VCE and VM Students that our information night will be on Monday 31st July.  All parents and carers are welcome and are encouraged to come along to be informed and ask any questions.

NAPLAN

Parents who have children in Years 3,5,7 and 9, will receive NAPLAN results in the next 2 weeks.

If you have any questions with the NAPLAN results, please discuss with your child’s teacher in the Learning Conversations scheduled for Wednesday 26th July.

Details about the Learning Conversations and how to booking will be available on Compass this week.

REPORTS

Parents should have already received your child’s Semester One report. Parents will have further opportunity to discuss the reports in the upcoming Learning Conversations.

A short survey on the reports will be made available to parents on the reports. The College is seeking feedback from parents on our current reporting. We need to ensure we are providing reports that are understandable and easy to read.

Parent feedback will be consider when staff look at how we can better inform parents of their child’s progress.

The survey will be available online with a link be made available on Compass. Parents will also have the opportunity to complete the survey on the day of the Learning Conversations.
