Concert Season

With another busy term drawing to a close, our community has been delighted by Huntingtower Music students performing in three marvellous music concerts, showcasing the various instrumental and choral music learned throughout the semester.

This commenced on Monday the 12th of June with our Farewell Concert, presented by the 49 students embarking on the European Music Tour. The students performed a robust programme of choral and orchestral works, celebrating all that they have achieved in a short but intense rehearsal period and enjoyed by friends and family. They embark on Sunday the 25th of June and return on the 9th of July and very much look forward to sharing their adventure with the Huntingtower Community.

Shortly following, was our Winter Choral Concert on Friday the 16th of June, where 283 students made up nine of our senior school Huntingtower Choirs and Junior School Chamber Choir, performed a vigorous two-hour programme of works spanning many musical styles and exploring a range of vocal skills. Many students performed on stage for the first time, or as soloists within choral pieces for the first time and should be commended on their efforts and bravery. The intent of this concert was to spread joy through music making and for students to engage in a positive musical experience. Seeing 170 smiling faces standing in Senior Choir, packed on to the giant stage at the Salvation Army Waverley Temple, was an incredible sight and one which perfectly encapsulated this intension. A special congratulations and thanks are to be extended to our wonderful choral accompanists, Stephanie-Jane Lewendon-Lowe and Chris Nolan for their dedication throughout this concert and the rehearsal process, and to Mrs Carly Major-Gough for the wonderful work she does with the Junior School Chamber Choir (not to mention all Junior School music and fabulous Cajon accompaniment!). Choristers experienced opportunities to perform with larger instrumental ensembles as well as featured solo student instrumentalists. This added great diversity to the programme and further showcased the wonderful musical talent present within our student body.

Our final concert of the season was the Winter Instrumental Ensembles Concert. It involved nine musical ensembles, playing a range of repertoire from Jazz to Classical and involved 167 students from Year 3 through to Year 12. The evening concluded with three epic concerti, featuring soloists, Spencer A (Year 12 – Violin), Matthew C (Year 12 – Violin) and Ethan Z (Year 10 – Piano), all demonstrating musicality well beyond their years. It was wonderful to see so many students heavily involved in both concerts and it highlighted how special and dedicated Huntingtower Music students are.

A special thank you to our Music Captains, Matthew C, Lynton S, Toby G, Arthur Inigo K-J, Harshitaa N, Chloe B, Faris T, Angelina A and Spencer A for their incredible efforts over the last fortnight. They led both evenings with grace and excellent organization, being exceptional role models to their peers.

What a wonderful way to finish the semester.

Bon viaggio!
