Wellbeing Wonderings

This week Albany Rise Primary School worked with 20 year 5 and 6 students as part of their Peer Mediator Training.  Part of this training included engaging with our students to help them understand when another student is in distress.

We talked about our amazing brains and the parts of the brain that are “online” when they are calm, regulated and ready to learn.  This is our Upstairs Brain.

We also talked about our brain and when it is “offline” when it is unfocussed, scared and unable to learn. This is our Downstairs Brain.

It is important to recognise these brain states so that we can encourage greater RESILIENCE, one of our school values, when we are faced with challenges.

What words do you use to describe when you are calm, regulated and ready to learn?

What words do you use to describe when you are unfocussed, scared and unable to learn?

Can you recognise when you are in your Upstairs Brain or your Downstairs brain?
