Teaching & Learning

Science Week
In week 6, students participated in science week activities. This year the theme for science week was food: different by design. We experimented with bouncing eggs, created cola super fountains and created home made butter. Lots of fun and learning was had!
Science Incursion
Street Science visited us last week and put on a very exciting show for our viewing pleasure. In this gourmet event, Street Science investigated what’s in the food we eat and explored some of the delightful delicacies you might encounter in the restaurants of the future. Students walked away with a greater understanding of how the food industry has evolved over the years, from its humble beginnings in farms right into the realms of science fiction.
Book Week
Book week 2021 was a huge success! Students participated in activities related to this years’ theme of ‘Old worlds, new worlds, other worlds.’ They listened to readings of the shortlisted books and dressed up as their favourite book character. Lots of fun was had by all! Congratulations to the winners of the door decorating competition- 2/3A and the design-a-world competition winners- Abbey and Rogan. If you missed it, check out our virtual Book Week parade here.

Ready Reader program
Supporting the future of our children through reading.
Reading is a powerful tool to help children grow their vocabulary, language skills and imagination. It helps children to develop lifelong skills that will support their future growth and learning.
Parents, caregivers and community members are invited to share the joy of reading and help improve literacy for children in Queensland by joining the Ready Reading program.
As a Ready Reading volunteer, Queenslanders will have the opportunity to make a difference in their local community by supporting children's reading.
The program, in partnership with Volunteering Queensland, will provide training to ensure volunteers are supported in their endeavours to help our students to grow and develop through reading. Ready Reading volunteers will be connected to schools in the school's reading programs.
Volunteers can register with Volunteering Queensland to join the Queensland Ready Reading program.
We already have several wonderful volunteers that have been trained in this program and are working in our school.
Please contact Mrs Anne-Maree Drummond if you would like to be contacted when this training starts. adrum9@eq.edu.au
