Though we have had some challenges in terms of periods of remote learning this year and the uncertainty that comes with sudden snap lockdowns, we continue to positively work towards improving every aspect of our program at Lalor Secondary College, as we resolutely maintain our focus on improving student outcomes.
Recently, under the leadership of School Council President Julie Pronesti, School Council has again supported the college to extend the purchase of laptops for our 2022 Year 7 students. This further builds on the pilot program of this year, where all Year 7 students received a school purchased laptop. It has been genuinely exciting watching the current year 7s using their devices to engage in a range of learning styles and modes of communication with teachers and with each other.
We were lucky enough to be onsite last week for 2 days of course counselling with our Year 10 cohort. This day involved individual appointments for each student to discuss their subject selection and proposed pathways as they progress towards tertiary education and the workforce only a couple of years from now. Student subject selections are due by the 13th of August. It was a great day where students were able to have conversations about their futures with our expert course counselling staff. There is a range of information available on our website and also in Compass news posts about this process.
We were able to have a Year 9 awards ceremony via Teams last Thursday. Despite the uncertainty that we face in lockdown periods, it was amazing to see how many of our Year 9 students have continued to try their very best regardless of circumstances. We are proud of all of our students, but a special congratulations to all of our award winners. When we are able to return to school, we will continue to run our awards assemblies for our other year levels to celebrate their outstanding achievements!
