While the sun seemed to be shinning a little more brightly last week, we once again have entered into a period of remote learning. We also heard the news that the year 12 GAT would be yet again rescheduled to a date yet to be determined.
Like everyone else, we are becoming used to re scheduling or altering planned events in line with the requirements mandated as part of lockdowns – a vital life skill and resilience mindset to have at any time, but particularly in the current circumstances.
At the same time, we understand how disappointing this is for our students and staff, especially when so much time and energy have been invested in planning for these events. The recent Parent Information evenings, Senior Course counselling and this week’s Curriculum Day are just a few of many examples. Some of our School Assessed Tasks have been rescheduled and new dates will be provided on Compass early this week. If you haven’t already, please have a look on Compass at your child’s latest semester one report. Congratulations to the many students who have worked so very hard and adapted to the challenges of this year to once again reach for and successfully obtain such excellent results. Their dedication and consistent application of sustained effort are reflected in these. As a senior school community, we were able to celebrate these results in our Semester One Awards assembles held on the TEAMs platform last Thursday, where it was delightful to see so many of our students actively supporting and encouraging the award winners online. The sense of community amongst the students really put a smile on our faces. Congratulations to the many students who received an award. We are so very proud of you all.
Before this most recent lockdown we were very privileged to have Ross Huggard spend the day with our year 12 English team, where he facilitated a workshop supporting our teachers to consolidate their practise and procedures in bench marking student work. Ross, is a highly respected English examiner with over 30 years of experience in his field. Whilst the day was intellectually rigorous, it provided an exemplar framework for staff here at our school which will no doubt flow through into our senior English classes.
Throughout this and all periods of remote learning, what is clearly evident is the commitment of all of our teaching and education support staff to ensure that, in spite of these challenges, our students do not miss out on the opportunities and support they need to be successful. Remote learning is challenging on everyone in different ways. In senior school, we are extremely proud of the combined efforts of our staff, students and families in making this as successful as possible. Please continue to reach out to the senior team if you require information or support for your teenager, or to discuss any concerns you may have.
Keep well,
Laura Forster.
