Community News

Congratulations to a former student!

Earlier this week we were thrilled to receive this email from a very proud mum, Monica Cruz, informing us of her exciting news regarding her daughter Elena, a former student at St Kevin's.

It is with great pride that I announce Elena to be the recipient of a Premier’s VCE Award for English. The Awards Ceremony for the 2020 graduates was supposed to have been held in person on July 29 at the Melbourne Convention Centre with the Premier in attendance, but in keeping with her Year’s COVID experience, cancelled ceremonies and the like, the ceremony was completely canceled due to the latest Lockdown, and no further attempt to reschedule. Why break with tradition, right?

In any case, I thought it fitting that all those years ago, when she started Prep in 2008, she took part in the PRC and appeared on the honour roll there for the first time as well, having read over 100 books in her first year of the challenge. I’ve attached photos of the newspaper I have kept all these years for posterity.                                                                   Please bear with a very proud mother  :)

Thanks again for giving her such a great start to her scholastic journey!

Play Therapy Now at St Kevin's!

Dear parents and carers or St Kevin’s Catholic School,

My name is Laura and I am a Clinical Play Therapist and Clinical Social Worker. I am now offering Play Therapy services to the children and families of St Kevin’s Catholic School onsite one day a week.

Play Therapy is suitable for children aged 3-12 years and it can help children work through a range of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Whilst adults 'talk things out' to make sense of difficult feelings and challenging experiences, children are built to 'play things out' instead. So, instead of taking place in an office like talk therapy for adults, Play Therapy takes place in a playroom, filled with toys and other play materials, to help children express and explore themselves in the best way they know how - through play.

Play Therapy can help children and families address a range of issues, including; difficulties with friendships or managing big emotions, challenges with transitions and settling back into school, making sense of changes, increasing confidence and building self-esteem, strengthening parent-child and sibling relationships, managing anxiety and depression and healing from traumatic experiences.

If you are interested to know more, please speak to your child’s teacher or get in touch with me on 0402 961 826.

Thank you,

Laura Rosenberg
