Junior School News

It has certainly been an eventful few weeks for the Junior School at Mazenod College. In between lockdowns, we have had two very important events, Semester One Awards and Subject Selection. It is fitting that the Character Strength is Prudence for the week that selections are due. Decisions that Junior students make now will have an important impact by the time they reach Year 11 and 12, so it makes sense that they would be “acting carefully and cautiously, looking to avoid unnecessary risks and planning with the future in mind”. Selections are due on Monday 23rd August, at 7pm. The following staff are here to help. Please do not hesitate to get in touch. All contact details can be found on MazCom:

  • Mr Noel Jenkinson- Deputy Principal
  • Mr Matthew Rowland- Dean of Junior School
  • Mr David May- Year 9 Coordinator
  • Mr Christopher Lee- Year 8 Coordinator

A message from Junior School Captain, Kai Russell:

Congratulations to all the award winners for Semester One. Regardless of whether you received an award or not, what matters the most is giving your best in all you do and trying to constantly display positive values. The Christian Leadership and Commitment & Perseverance Awards are meant to motivate students to be the best person they can be and in turn create a positive and strong culture within the College. The Christian Leadership Award is given to those people who show great Christian values which include kindness, mateship and standing up for what is right. Some simple deeds you can do include being polite to others and assisting others when they are feeling down. The Commitment & Perseverance Award is given to those who try to improve in all they do and push themselves to reach their goals. The Australian tennis player Ash Barty showed great perseverance in her Wimbledon Final. After losing the second set, she had to fight out the third set to win the overall tournament, despite a serious injury. Ash showed amazing perseverance, something all students can look to emulate in Semester Two.
