Italian Week

Last week students celebrated Italian week at St Joseph’s College.

Each day began with the Italian pop song “Dove e quando” played over the PA. There were quizzes on Italian culture throughout the week where students were challenged to identify Italian artists, celebrities, and soccer players as well as name active volcanoes, places and mountains. The most impressive and consistent participants were Curtis Foran and Moana Broughton who won the Tuesday edition and were also runners up on Thursday. Additional winners across the week were Poppy Ferguson, Darcy Cullen, Jett Kervin, Thomas Jeffries and the LM of Ms Simmonds. Staff members also became involved, with Mr Scott being only a few seconds late for a prize on Tuesday!

Students were also encouraged to channel their inner Guy Grossi whipping up a storm in the kitchen by plating up an Authentic Italian meal for their family with impressive results. Congratulations goes to Ella Hickey, the winner of the Italian Dinner Competition. Ella plated up a spectacular two course meal of Capelli D'Angelo pasta with a cherry tomato sauce and homemade breadsticks. For dessert she made an Italian chocolate love cake with an Iced Americano. Our runner up Brayden Pike made a delicious lasagne with a side salad for his family.

Junior school students were invited to attend a lunchtime screening of the Disney Pixar film ‘Luca’, which is set in the beautiful seaside town of the Italian Riviera. It is a coming of age story about a young Italian boy experiencing an unforgettable summer with his best friend Alberto where they eat gelato and pasta and compete in a triathlon to win a highly prized Vespa.

Friday saw Italian week end on a high with a Foosball competition. Due to the split timetable, only junior students were able to participate in the competition but the atmosphere was nevertheless charged with grit and passion. After a very intense game, Poppy Ferguson and Melanie Francis managed to win over the other finalists Tyson McKenzie and Emmy Wilson. It was a game worth watching!

Grazie Mille to all who participated! We look forward to an even bigger and better Italian week in 2022!
