French at

Hackham East Primary

School

Bonjour à tous! Hello everyone!

This year’s French Day was a wonderful day of learning, creativity and fun. The 2021 theme centred around ‘The Regions of France’, with this being the very first year our finishing year students organised, planned and ran the day. They did a wonderful job and I hope to continue this tradition into future years.

As usual, the school was filled with French flag colours and French themed costumes and all students were treated to a très délicieux Eiffel Tower shaped cookie from Naomi at the Canteen. Some students also enjoyed a very special French Day lunch order of a croissant, drink and meringue. Many students participated in the annual French Day Competition, with this year’s entrants drawing French Travel Posters. Félicitations to Natalie Allwood and Tyra Wade for being the overall winners on the day.

Students displayed their School Values in many ways. The Receptions and Small Classes used Courage to perform a dance to ‘Le Fermier Dans Son Pré’ at assembly. Year 1/2 students shared their French Skipping rhymes which they needed Persistence to learn, and the Holly classes displayed their French Region research posters. The 6/7s used Courage and Compassion when teaching younger students and Good Manners when communicating with teachers.

Throughout the day, students participated in a range of French themed activities, getting their passports stamped as they visited each region.

The Receptions and Small Classes visited BRITTANY where they learnt about and created small scale replicas of the ‘Stones of Carnac’. They also went to HAUTES-DE-FRANCE where they made flowers in the colours of the region’s logo. They made paper snowflakes in AUVERGNE-RHÔNE ALPES and tasted Dijon Mustard in BOURGOGNE-FRANCHE COMTÉ.

The Year 1/2 classes travelled to ILE DE FRANCE where they made Eiffel Towers out of matchsticks and plasticine, discovered the unique and interesting machine animals in PAYS DE LA LOIRE and created beautiful beach collages inspired by CORSICA ISLAND.

The 3/4/5 classes visited NORMANDY where they drew Mont St Michel pastel drawings and PROVENCE-ALPES-CÔTE D’AZUR where they sketched Paul Cézanne still life drawings. In NOUVELLE-AQUITAINE classes looked at Limoges porcelain plates and recreated their own using paper plates and textas. Students also travelled to CENTRE-VAL DE LOIRE and observed the beautiful Chateau de Villandry gardens. They then used green and red paint and sponges to create their very own garden design.

Merci beaucoup to all of the parents and visitors who attended our special French Day assembly and to the teachers, SSOs and helpers who assisted throughout the day. A final merci to the 6/7 students who made the day possible.

Merci!
