Welcome

Welcome

Thank you for the warm and friendly welcome to Lyndhurst SC.  I am very excited to be joining the team and looking forward to meeting everyone in person as soon as we can.

I’ve been teaching for the past 20+ years in a variety of city and country schools and I’m very passionate about learning.  I began my teaching career at Kurnai College in the Latrobe Valley where I taught the Indonesian language.  I then taught for ten years at Trafalgar High School and a few years at Wonthaggi SC.  Together with my family, we lived for a few years in Flores, an island in the Eastern part of Indonesia with Australian Volunteers International. PreCOVID,  I enjoyed travelling back to Flores to visit neighbours and friends and immersing myself in their culture.

Besides Bahasa Indonesia, I have most recently been the Assistant Principal and teaching EAL students at Narre P-12 while also developing the opportunities for Student Leadership and Agency across the College. I have also been very involved in 4Cs, Victorian State School Spectacular and the College Productions (love a musical!).

Aside from work, I enjoy walking while listening to podcasts, bike riding, gardening, spending time with family and our pets and hiking. I believe that we should offer opportunities for everyone to achieve success and strive for excellence in their chosen pathway. Respect, integrity, and empathy are at the core of my actions each day as I work with young people.  I’m very grateful for the opportunity to continue working with the staff, students and parents in the Lyndhurst Secondary College community.

Salam,

Jo Keating
