Wellbeing & 3-6 Mini School

3-6 Staff Structure:

This year at TSPS, we have broken the school up into two mini schools.  My role this year will be to oversee and lead the Three – Six area.  The team includes 4 inspiring and expert leaders:

As a collective group, our aim in 2018 is to support and work closely alongside the appointed teaching staff within the 3-6 area.  We will be spending the majority of our time coaching these staff.  Through the setting up of supportive and collaborative partnerships, we will develop teacher capacity using quality feedback to improve data and student outcomes.

This year we have five community spaces within the 3-6 mini school.  The teaching staff include 22 engaging and passionate teachers:

AMETHYST COMMUNITY – Emma Boughton (Community Leader), Stewart Spencer and Kaye Canning

EMERALD COMMUNITY – Sarah Panayi (Community Leader), Nicole Spitaleri, Jane Clark and Julie Morgan

TOPAZ COMMUNITY – Paul Maczohan (Community Leader), Jacinta Porter, Millie Carr, Tegan Horniblow and Kate DiBattista

TURQUOISE COMMUNITY – Terry Prowse (Community Leader), Tenille Roberts, Steve Gray, Sarah Cue and Sueanne O’Connell

CORAL COMMUNITY – Hamish Dahl (Community Leader), Demi Isles, Courtney Merryfull, Liz McLean and Vicki Haynes

Additional Needs Staff Structure:

Every Learning Community has an Integration Aide placed in the spaces to support the children and staff. These compassionate and experienced staff work alongside the teachers to scaffold and guide student learning through their work and running different groups such as Language Support, Social Skills, Life Skills and Sensory Breaks.

Respectful Relationships:

Respectful Relationships is about tackling family violence through education.

The Government is providing Victorian schools with a range of extra supports and resources including, new Respectful Relationships teaching and learning materials.

In the classroom, children will learn problem-solving skills, to develop empathy, support their own wellbeing and build healthy relationships with others. The initiative will also provide resources to best support children and staff who are affected by family violence.

When children build positive relationships with their teachers and peers they feel safer and happier at school, are more resilient and have positive social attitudes. Positive relationships also increase a child’s sense of social connectedness and belonging which can result in better health and academic outcomes.

On the first day back, the staff were involved in a whole day PD building their understanding of Family Violence and the curriculum that will be taught building students’ skills in creating and maintaining Respectful Relationships.

The curriculum covers 8 areas; Emotional Literacy, Personal Strengths, Positive Coping, Problem Solving, Stress Management, Help-Seeking, Gender and Identity and Positive Gender Relations.

Please see below some links that show case the need to develop these skills and understandings.
