OUR SCHOOL IS BECOMING RESOURCESMART!

This year our school is taking action to become more environmentally sustainable through a Victorian Government initiative called ResourceSmart Schools.

ResourceSmart Schools is a program that helps our school embed sustainability in everything we do. We are aiming to reduce our resource use (like electricity, waste water) plus support indigenous plants and animals. This will also help us to save money. We also want to involve students, families and other members of our school and local community.

We are working with Laura Nix from CERES Environment Park on the actions required to complete the CORE module.

This year, we are aiming to create a strong foundation for our sustainability program. We will continue to build on some of the sustainable practices we have put in place over the last two years. We will monitor our resource use by using a free website called ResourceSmart Online, and continue to improve our gardens.

We would like to get the community involved, continue to participate in exciting events such as the Kids Teaching Kids day, and promote sustainability in our curriculum.

We can’t wait to share our achievements with you, see our gardens grow, reduce our school’s impact, help make the Earth a better place for all, contribute to a sustainable future for all.

SECOND HAND UNIFORMS

Our second hand uniform shop is now operating each Tuesday afternoon in the staffroom.

There are many items of clothing.  Some are virtually brand new – parents often donate them saying they have only been worn once. (Occasionally you will also find an item with the tags still on - never been worn before!)

All WHPS  branded clothing is $5. Any other clothes are $2. Feel free to pop in and grab yourself some some extra or spare uniforms.  You will find girls summer school dresses, short sleeved and long sleeved polo shirts, polar fleece jackets, shorts and long pants.

Thank you to our wonderful volunteer mum's. We appreciate you giving up your time to help us out.

BOOK WEEK

In two weeks Wheelers Hill Primary School will be celebrating Book Week.  This is a wonderful time for us to celebrate books and reading.

On Wednesday 21st August, very successful children's author, Oliver Phommavahn, will run some sessions with our Year 3 - 6 students to inspire and share his stories as a writer.

On Friday 23rd August, we will have our annual Book Week Parade. Children are encouraged to dress up as a favourite book character. Parents are invited to attend the parade which will be at 9.10 am in the gym.

Following the parade students will be involved in rotating activities in their year levels celebrating great books.
