100 Days of Prep - Congratulations!

Congratulations to our Foundation students who completed 100 days of school last week. These children have come a long way in their journey into full time formal schooling and have made huge growth in their learning and maturity. Our Prep students and their teachers celebrated 100 days with a fancy dress morning where students and staff came dressed representing the number 100. Several staff and students were very convincing in their costumes and blow up walking frames!

Premiers' Reading Challenge (PRC)

The whole school is so close to completing the PRC this year with approximately 95% of students finished. Already this is a fantastic achievement but with some last effort from teachers, parents and students I'm sure we can reach the magic goal of 100% by 6th September. Everyone involved has put in an amazing effort so far and our students have read over 20,000 books during the challenge. A special thanks to Mrs B-C, Miss G and Lamia who have been working hard to ensure as many students as possible complete the challenge.

Mathematics - How to build your child's numeracy skills from years 3 to 6

Support your child's learning by giving them opportunities to discuss and engage in maths. Your child will begin to connect the importance of maths with everyday activities, including navigating public transport, choosing the best item to buy, budgeting and cooking. Maths today is not about learning by repetition. Today, the focus is on recognising that there are many ways to get an answer. Rather, it is important to be able to explain how and why you chose the approach you did. There are many activities you can do at home to help explore maths with your child. When participating in these activities, avoid associating them with speed. Expecting your child to work quickly on maths can cause maths anxiety. Try to focus on the process and not the outcome. I have provided a link to a DET website which includes tips on how to build your child's skills in maths and numeracy through everyday situations.

Parent Opinion Survey - Date Extended

Just a reminder to the families who were randomly selected (by an algorithm) to complete the Parent Opinion Survey by Sunday 18th August. Please note this date has been extended by a week.

If you received this invitation, we request that you complete the survey  as soon as possible to assist the school in gaining an understanding of parents' perceptions of the school climate, student behaviour and student engagement.  Wheelers Hill Primary School will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.  All responses are anonymous.

Thank you for your time in completing the survey.

From the Department of Education :

The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training (DET). Each year the survey randomly selects families from the school community to provide information to both the school and DET.  It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents' perceptions of the school climate, student behaviour and student engagement.  Wheelers Hill Primary will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

Art Show - Save the Date

Just another reminder the Art Show is coming up on Thursday the 12th September. The Art Show will have two sessions, one after school from 3:45-4:45pm and in the evening from 6:00-7:45pm. As this event of one of our major fundraising events for the year I would like to encourage all families of the school to come along. More details will be available closer to the date.

WESA Athletics Sports

Good luck to our students in Year 4-6 competing in the WESA Athletic Sports on Monday. Wheelers Hill are the defending champions so all the very best to our competitors. A big thanks Ms Purcell and Mrs Drury for their organisation and training of the students.
