ST  JOHNS FIRST AID INCURSION

This week students in all classes participated in a St Johns First Aid incursion. All sessions involved a practical component where students got to practice skills to help in an emergency situation.

This incursion is designed to help students to feel familiar and comfortable with an emergency situation and give them confidence in having an idea in how they can best help.

Prep , Year 1 and Year 2 students learnt how important it is to get rid of danger for yourself and the patient, how to check to see if someone can respond by asking “Can you hear me” and squeezing their shoulders and how to send for help. They went through the kinds of questions you might be asked when you call triple zero and how to answer those questions.

Year 3 and 4 students were learning what the acronym DRSABC means and the learning how to check for breathing, how to clear airways and how to place someone in the recovery position.

Year 5 and 6 students were again going through the DRSABC and were given an opportunity to practice CPR.

For parents who are unsure about the order of dealing with an emergency the acronym DRSABC is used.  Here is the guide to help you in conversations you may have with your child.

The feedback from this incursion has been fantastic, the students were very engaged and finished each session with a great deal of confidence in what to do in an emergency situation.

LIONS CLUB

The Lions Club of Wheelers Hill support our school with volunteers coming in each week to help students with Literacy support. It would be wonderful if our school community could support the Lions club in return.

The Lions Club's second hand book stall is this weekend at the Black Flat Community Centre (corner Springvale Rd and Waverley Rd).

If you are looking to add to your home library  please pop down to support the Lions club and get some pre-loved books.

The brochure with details is provided in this newsletter under Community Notices..

PREMIERS READING CHALLENGE

Congratulations to all our students for being such avid readers! We are now at 78% of the school who have completed the challenge.

So far our students have read a total of 20,713 books.

A special mention goes to 1MG, 3JG, 4JS, 4WB and 5DS who have all students in their classes who have completed the Challenge.
