Magis

The weekend saw a range of important events involving Magis students including the ECU Cyber Presentation and the Tournament of Minds WA Finals on Saturday and Sunday respectively, and the British Parliamentary Debating competition.

Congratulations to the Tournament of Minds STEM team of Akash Parekh, Cohen Rafiq, Gabriel Kaye, Jack Brett, Tiffany Cesare, Josh Leong and Campbell Riley on a superb performance to win the WA Final and qualify for the nationals in Hobart. Congratulations also to Mr Damien Connellan for his great work with the team. Congratulations also to Year 11 students Ben Linsten and Nick Brennan who competed impressively in the WADL British Parliamentary Debating championships at Shenton College last weekend. The standard of debating was exceptional, and this parliamentary style with each debate involving four teams of two from different schools has become extremely popular.

Best wishes to our very talented Opti-MINDS Year 7 Language Literature team of Hannah Johnson, Maya Mintz, Meg Cleary, Alejandra Recinos and Sara Lazareski for the WA Finals which are held this weekend at Curtin University.  The winning team in each area will compete in the National finals in Brisbane.

The John XXIII Chess Championship concludes this week and results will be announced in next week’s newsletter. Congratulations to all participants.   Results of the Magis Academic Knowledge challenge will also be announced next week.

Top-performing girls in Years 7, 8 or 9 are invited to apply to participate in ‘Imaginarium’ , an exciting gifted and talented program to be run at Perth College during the October holidays. Interested students please email me by Tuesday.
