ACC Athletics

John XXIII College had a tremendous day at the 2019 ACC B Division Athletics carnival, finishing the day as the champion school. Our athletes braved the trying weather conditions and all performed incredibly well to take out four of the seven shields on offer – Senior Girls, Aggregate Girls, Aggregate Boys and Overall Aggregate with a total score of 1688 points. Securing this win means that next year our team will move back up to A Division, where we hope to stay for future years. Thank you to Mr Cameron Tremayne, Mr Darren Kowal, Miss Jodi Power, Miss Jessica Pillera and Mr Mitchell Osborn for all their support accompanying, supervising and cheering on our athletes throughout the day.

While every athlete contributed to the win, there were some outstanding efforts by three of our students which led to each them achieving the Age Champion Award for their division.

  • U16 Girls - Lucille Gleghorn
  • U14 Boys - Austin van der Struyf
  • U13 Boys - Xavier Jeffery

Our team would not have achieved all this success without the specialist coaches who led our training sessions this year.

  • Sprints                               Miss Jessica Pillera, Mr Yagan Williams and Emma Philippe
  • Hurdles                             Nina Kennedy
  • Long Jump                       Angus Armstrong
  • High Jump                        Mitch Tassicker
  • Throws                              Tim Lyons, Hamish Lyons and Chris Capretta
  • Middle Distance              Ned Robles and Olivia Stowell

The numbers at training this year were strong, however there is always room for improvement. Next year, to help achieve our goal of staying in A Division, it would be amazing to see a greater number of students make the most of our training sessions and our talented coaches. When we take on the schools at the 2020 A Division Carnival, we need to ensure we are as prepared as possible and are ready for the challenge!
