Introduction to Respectful Relationships: Forum for Parents/Carers

WHO: Parents/Carers (no children)

Please note we still have limits on the numbers of people allowed in our spaces, so registration for this event is required, and we would ask that only one parent per household attend. Registration will be on a first-in-first-served basis. If we have more interest than we can cater for we will try to hold a second forum soon after. We will let you know if your registration cannot be accepted due to numbers.

At Clifton Hill Primary School we have always been committed to promoting happy, healthy, resilient children who participate in relationships with each other, their teachers and the community, that are respectful and equitable.

In 2015 the Royal Commission into Family Violence identified the critical role that schools have in creating a culture of respect, to change the story of family violence for future generations… In response to the Royal Commissions’ recommendation, all Government schools were mandated, by the Department of Education and Training, to deliver Respectful Relationships Education and the Victorian government has invested $37.5 million over 2020 and 2021 to support the education of students, teachers and the school community.

What we have done so far at Clifton Hill Primary School:

Became a ‘partner school’ within a local support network
Began auditing our school with regard to Respectful Relationship needs
Adopted the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationship resources (developed in partnership by Deakin and Melbourne Universities Education branches) as our core component for the explicit teaching of the Personal and Social Capabilities component of the Victorian Curriculum
All Clifton Hill staff have participated in a Professional Development day in Term 1
Teachers have begun mapping and teaching the curriculum Topics 1-5 (Emotional Literacy, Personal Strengths, Positive Coping, Problem Solving and Stress Management).
Professional Development has been undertaken by teachers on the topic of responding to disclosures
Planning for the teaching of Units 6 (Help Seeking), 7 (Gender and Identity) and 8 (Positive Gender Relations) has begun
