Principal's Message
Dear parents and carers,
We have had a busy few weeks at school. Grade 3 and 4 students finished their intensive swimming lessons, the Grade 3 and 5 students undertook NAPLAN tests and there has been lots of exciting construction going on around the school, including a new playground in the Wellington Street yard.
On the student-free day on May 3rd, CHPS staff participated in CUST - Cultural Understanding and Safety Training. The professional learning was facilitated by Koori Engagement Support Officers and deepened our staff's understanding of Marrung, the Aboriginal Education Plan 2016-2026. The aim of Marrung is to ensure the following:
- Rich and thriving culture, knowledge and experience of our First Nations peoples are celebrated by all Victorians
- Our universal service systems are inclusive, responsive and respectful of Koorie people at every stage of their learning and development journey;
- Every Koorie person achieves their potential, succeeds in life, and feels strong in their cultural identity.
On June 1st, a Respectful Relationships forum will be held at school for parents and carers. At Clifton Hill Primary School we have always been committed to promoting happy, healthy, resilient children who participate in relationships with each other, their teachers, and the community, that are respectful and equitable. To find out more or register, please click on the Respectful Relationships page in this newsletter.
Well done to the students who made it through to the District Cross Country event a few weeks ago. It is wonderful to be able to see our students participate in these extracurricular events again.
This term we have focused on ways to involve parents in school activities. Opportunities this term include:
- Parent helpers in the Prep and Grade 1 classrooms
- Parent helpers on excursions
- Prep dance concerts next Wednesday and Thursday
- On-site parent forums - Community Connections and Respectful Relationships
- Participating in school working bees
Term 2 also sees the return of assemblies, school choirs, aerobics, and grade 6 rock bands for our students.
We will continue to look at how we can involve parents in student learning in line with Department COVID-Safe guidelines.
Enjoy your weekend,
Megan
