Mrs Holley

A very warm welcome to Term 2!

Library Borrowing

Library lessons for K-6 classes resume this coming Friday 23rd April. Once again, I am excited to be able to share some of our wonderful library resources with all students during their library time. ANZAC Day will be the theme for this week’s shared texts.

A reminder that during library lessons students will have the opportunity to borrow books to read at home. These books may be kept at home for two weeks before they are required to be returned. I encourage all students to take advantage of the fabulous resources we have in our school library.

Don’t forget that a library bag is required to ensure the safe transportation of library books between home and school.

Free Online Reading App - SORA- eBooks

Have you visited SORA yet? SORA provides the students with access to an amazing collection of age appropriate texts which they are able to read on any device that has internet access. All you have to do is log into your school account and go to the library site or click on the SORA icon. I strongly recommend SORA as a source for obtaining reading material for your child.

Premier's Reading Challenge

Most students have received their login details for the Premier’s Reading Challenge. For those students who are new to St. Joseph’s we have received your login details from the Premier’s Reading Challenge people and you will receive your information this week.

Primary students are encouraged to maintain their own reading logs and upload their own data to the PRC website, whilst students in Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 are able to keep a written log and this information will be entered by me once it is returned to school. Should parents of K-2 students wish to input their child’s books to the PRC website it will be greatly appreciated!

A reminder the Reading Challenge concludes on 20th August.

THE PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE POSTER

Have you been wondering about the design for the Premier's Reading Challenge Poster? This information taken from The Premier's Reading Challenge website:

The PRC poster for 2021 features artwork created by Dr Bronwyn Bancroft, a Bundjalung Woman and artist. Bronwyn has been exhibiting nationally and internationally for over 3 decades, and has written and/or illustrated 41 children's books.

Dr Bancroft's rationale behind the design of the 2021 PRC artwork is as follows:

"The image I have created for the Premier's Reading Challenge is a visual affirmation of the importance of the oldest form of communication, oral history. Every generation learns from each other and this results in rich history that is vibrant and alive. Being able to put the stories of our people, our families and our struggles into book form is amazing. To share is to educate and assists in diminishing ignorance."

The artwork highlights the journey of stories from their creators through the community, and is representative of the importance of sharing stories throughout all phases of our life and community. We are thrilled to be showcasing this vibrant and engaging artwork as part of the 2021 Premier's Reading Challenge, and trust that it will provide many opportunities to reflect on the importance of sharing stories and their roles in our communities.
