High School

Japanese Celebration Day
We will be conducting our annual Japanese Celebration Day in the High School on Wednesday 24 March at lunchtime. March in Japan sees the change of season and celebrations honouring this. Yakisoba noodle cups will once again be available for purchase at a cost of $2 – we ask students to have exact change so that we can minimize money handling. On the North Block patio will be an opportunity for students to come and explore traditional Japanese toys, through participating in Kendama relays, and in the library, students will be able to engage in origami activities fitting the season and a Sakura - cherry blossom interactive online initiative. We encourage students and staff to join us!
Da Vinci Decathlon
Next week 57 students from Years 7-10 will be competing in the Da Vinci Decathlon at Mount Carmel College or The Hutchins School.
It is a gala day run in the spirit of an Olympic decathlon with events of an academic nature in the following disciplines: Art and Poetry, Cartography, Code Breaking, Creative Production, Engineering, English, Legacy, Ideation, Mathematics and Science.
We wish all the participating students a fun and challenging day.
High School Biological Science 1 Excursions
An important component of Biological Science 1 is collecting biological data from the field. This term, the students will be investigating the marine organisms living in the intertidal zone of Bambra Reef, Roches Beach. All students will be bussed to and from the location.
Thursday 25 March - Lisa Arthur (Bioscience 1C) and Karina Potter (Bioscience 1A). Depart 12pm. Return 2.30pm.
Friday 26 March - Lisa Arthur (Bioscience 1D) and Karina Potter (Bioscience 1B). Depart 1pm. Return 3.30pm.
Students will need to wear sensible outdoor-education style clothing that is suitable for two hours of exposure to Tasmanian weather. This should include solid footwear, a hat, sunscreen and raincoat. Gumboots or waterproof shoes would also be helpful if available.
Students should also bring a drink and their lunch. There will be no access to a shop or the canteen for lunch that day. Students should ensure they bring their personal medication with them and that Operoo medical details are up to date.
If there are any questions or concerns please contact your student’s teacher.
