Campus Redevelopment Starts!

The work on the Commercial Road Campus has started this week!  We are excited to see the site set-up by the builder's this week.  Please see the followingemail updatethat was sent to all families this afternoon.  There is important information about changes to the pedestrian, traffic and parking on Carr Street.

We encourage car users who normally use Carr Street to plan or use an alternate route and request that all pedestrians move to and from the Campus with care and respect for the neighbourhood.

The Resilience Project

For any parents/carers who missed The Resilience Project's Parent/Carer Webinar last Wednesday night, here is the recording of the Zoom session. Please note that this will expire on Friday 26 March.

During his presentation, Hugh shared his experiences and combined them with practical strategies that can be implemented every day to improve our overall wellbeing. One of the ways we can practise GEM (Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness) is to practise these daily Gratitude questions at home; they are a great way to facilitate positive conversations as a family.

Here are a few great GEM Chat questions:

* What are three things that went well for you today (or made you smile, for younger children)?

* Who is someone you feel really grateful for today, and tell us why?

* What is it about our home that makes it our home/special family place?

* What is something you are looking forward to tomorrow?

If you have any questions or feedback about the Parent/Carer Webinar, or The Resilience Project, please contact Esther Hoggart, Year 9 Coordinator (ehoggart@friends.tas.edu,.au).

The next presentation from The Resilience Project is the Connected Parenting Workshop will be coming up on June 7th in The Farrall Centre from 6:30 - 8pm. Further details will be shared closer to the event.

Operoo Central (formerly CareMonkey) App

Operoo are discontinuing support for the Apple iOS and Android CareMonkey Apps, replacing the App with Operoo Central, available at the links below. The new app has an almost identical interface and will use the same login details as the previous CareMonkey app and the Operoo website.

The CareMonkey App will continue to work at the moment, and we are waiting on a deadline for all users to move to the new app.

Music Tuition and Ensemble Membership

It has been terrific to see a large number of students sign up for vocal and instrumental tuition this year. Parents are reminded that lessons are also dependent upon students being in a co-curricular Music ensemble or studying elective Music in Years 8 to 12.

The Music Staff are currently reviewing ensemble and class lists and will be in touch where a tuition student has either not joined an ensemble or is not studying elective Music. Where this is the case lessons may need to cease come Term 2.

NAPLAN

For those families with students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, NAPLAN will be conducted during Term 2.  The NAPLAN assessments will be conducted on-line (with the exception of Year 3 Writing, which will remain paper-based). Students will be made familiar with the on-line process and format through practice questions prior to the assessments. The NAPLAN assessments in both Morris and High School will take place between Tuesday 11 May and Friday 21 May.

Further information and specifics on the tests and timing will be provided to families with students in these year levels soon. In the meantime, more information for parents regarding Naplan Online can be foundhere.

Please contact Wendy Crow wcrow@friends.tas.edu.au in relation to Years 3 and 5 and John Hoggart jhoggart@friends.tas.edu.au in relation to Years 7 and 9 if you have any questions.

Reminder: Road Safety

Students have been receiving a range of information and education with respect to road safety in recent weeks.  This has included information sharing in Tutors/Class groups, displays in the Library and guest speakers at assemblies.  The School and Tasmania Police have been monitoring traffic and parking behaviour near our Argyle Street campus.  Generally, there has been a positive response to this presence, however, there are still a number of drivers who are not following the road rules or being unsafe.

We would like to remind all parents, staff and students of our shared responsibility to follow the road rules, use the overpass and safety come and go from our school campuses.
