Year 5/6 Term 2 Overview

Year 5/6 Term Two 2021

Welcome back to the start of Term Two! We had a very busy and productive Term 1 with Year 6 camp, Twilight Sports and our Summer Sports Day being just some of the learning and events which took place. We can’t wait to continue building on our learning opportunities and experiences, now that we have settled into our routines again for this term.

Religious Education

In Religious Education this term, students will be reflecting on the changes they have experienced in their lives as well as the changes of others, such as the disciples during the time of Pentecost. They will be exploring the concept of discipleship and investigating the stories of Saints. Students will go on to identify the Fruits and Gifts of the Holy Spirit and how these qualities can be used by our students to go and make a difference in the world.

Inquiry

Our Inquiry unit titled “Inspired by our past” will have a strong history focus as students explore the events and key figures associated with the gold rush and Australian migration stories. Our key learning intentions will include:

  • The causes and the reasons why people migrated to Australia from Europe and Asia
  • The stories, perspectives, experiences and contributions of migrant groups
  • The role that  significant individuals  played in shaping and changing a colony

This will be some fantastic front loading before our combined Year 5/6 camp to Sovereign Hill at the beginning of Term 3.

This term, the senior students will look to develop their reading, speaking, listening and writing skills through a variety of activities and programs. Our literacy rotation activities and teacher lead focus groups will continue this term, to develop student reading skills to apply their comprehension skills when analysing a variety of texts..
