Parenting In a New Culture (PINC) Workshops

Parenting In a New Culture (PINC) Workshops

Staughton College, in partnership with Spectrum Migrant Resources, has been running parenting workshops for newly arrived families for several years now.  This year, we had our workshops in Term 1.

Former student Zaina Morisho has joined the team as the bicultural worker supporting Irene Brown facilitate.  It was well attended both online and face-to-face. Youth Hub Coach Djibril Diallo says, "I think it was fantastic. I think the parents were really engaged and curious about what they can do (to support thier kids) and it gave them the opportunity to understand how they can get involved in school and how they can support their kids moving forward.  It has given them some ideas about what they can do for their kids and things they didn't know. It was really, really good. I think those who really participated in the program, I don't think they won't struggle with what's going on, and they know they can get help.  I think parents need this kind of program".

PINC workshops ran for six Thursdays from 12:30 - 3:00 pm. Families who arrived within the last 7 years are able to attend. It's a safe and open space where we talk about the challenges of raising our children in a new culture, learning about child development, discussing the Australian education system, and much more.  Free snacks and child care were also provided.

A FREE family excursion is in the works for next term.
