From the Student Representative Council

SRC QUARTERLY REPORT

This term, the SRC have been working really hard attending meetings and having discussions. It was amazing to hear everyone’s ideas for the school and we’ve come up with great things to use our fundraising money for. I’ve put together a summary of all the fantastic things that the SRC have been working on.

We started the year with students giving speeches to their class which decided who the SRC representatives were going to be. Students and teachers then voted who they thought would fit the role. We celebrated their achievements in a special assembly where their parents came and students were handed certificates and badges.

In the very first meeting, we played a 'get to know you' game so that everyone would feel welcomed. It was great fun, and we learnt a lot about each other. In the next meeting, we went straight into it, and started our essential agreement and talked about the Murrumbeenies that the School Captains designed. We also discussed where the fundraising money would go. In the next meeting, we decided to review the tiered behaviour management system (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green- recognising behaviour system).

SRC’s have a meeting every fortnight and the school captains meet weekly for a Cabinet Meeting with the teachers. In our cabinet meetings, we follow up on all the suggestions made by the SRC members. For instance, we contacted a tap company to receive a quote for new drinking taps, which was an idea suggested by the SRC.

We also reviewed feedback on the tiered behaviour system and we were very pleased to hear that students thought that it was very fair and clear to understand.

As we move into Term 2, there are even more tasks on our SRC To Do List! We look forward to discussing student wellbeing programs, more fundraising ideas, ways to reward positive behaviour and many more fantastic SRC suggestions.

I’d like to give a shout-out to all the SRC members as they have been working really hard and attending the meetings.

The junior SRC representatives have been doing a great job, even though it’s their first time. I’d also like to give a shout-out to the teachers; Miss Callanan, Miss Bongers, Miss French and Miss Nasreddin! They are always guiding the school captains at meetings and do everything they can to make sure everyone has a say. They are always organised and write down all our suggestions!

I have also really enjoyed getting to know our lovely Assistant Principal, Mrs. Sewell, who has helped us a lot this term too. We really look forward to continuing to work with her because she has really exciting and creative ideas. My last shout-out is to the other school captains; Audrey, Calvin and Bimal. They are also very organised people and make sure that they help the younger ones. Audrey, Calvin and Bimal are great people to work with and I’m really excited to work with all the teachers, captains and the other SRC members in Term 2 and onwards!

Have a great holiday!

Monako (School Captain)
