From the School Leadership Team,

From Mr. Chant,

Principal

This weekend we will remember the sacrifices made by so many to protect the freedoms we enjoy today. ANZAC day observances this year will be a little more like those we have become used to.

Our school will have the opportunity to recognize the sacrifices made by those in war and in defence of our freedom at a service in Caulfield Park on Monday at 2.20pm.

We extend a warm welcome to all those families who wish to join us for this important event. More information around the commemoration of ANZAC Day can be found at the site listed below.

Lest We Forget.   http://www.rslvic.com.au/anzac-day/anzac-day-2021/

We have some fundraising items here for the Anzac Day Appeal. Items are $2.00, $4.00, $5.00, and some are $10.00, $20.00 and $50.00.  These will be available at the gates next Monday and at the office. If you would like to purchase any, please ensure you have the exact money.

Welcome back to the start of term 2. I hope all families and members of the school community enjoyed the beautiful weather over the school holidays to spend some time outside, visiting friends, travelling across the borders and took a chance to rest and recharge their batteries.

Welcome to Michael Capapas, who is working in our school this term to support our 'English as an Additional Language' program. This professional learning placement will support staff to develop tailored programs for those students who are developing their English language skills. Michael works at Noble Park Language Centre and we look forward to having him as part of the CJC team.

School starts each day at 9am. The school gates are opened by staff members at 8.45am. Students are welcomed into their classroom by staff from 8.45am. We are still asking families to drop their children at the gates each morning and allow them to make their own way to class. This is working really well for us and we want this smooth start to each learning day to continue into term 2 and beyond.

National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a nationwide testing program that is conducted at year 3 and 5 in all primary schools. Staff have been preparing for these assessments and the children will be supported through the three day testing program commencing in early May.

In late March one of our senior students, Charvi from year 6, competed in the Victorian Club Teams Track Championship organised by AusCycling Victoria at the Darebin Velodrome - International Sport Centre.

She was representing Carnegie Caulfield Cycling Club and she won two silver medals - one each for Team Sprint and Team Pursuit events.

Congratulations and well done.

I know Charvi rides her bike to school most days so all that extra training has paid off at the state titles!

The colder weather sees lots of coats, scarves and gloves arriving at school. Please make sure these are clearly named. Lost property items are located in the main building near the art room and we welcome families to check out our collection and reclaim your missing items.

Education Week is planned for the week commencing 24th May 2021. A full program is being developed to showcase our school across the week, with classrooms open up for the community to visit, for families to access other learning spaces and to share in their child’s schooling, spend some structured time playing after the school day and enjoy a shared afternoon snack with their classmates. Please keep an eye out for the dates and mark them in your calendars.

To kick off Education Week, we will be hosting an Open Information session for prospective families. The school leadership team and some of our teachers will be involved, as well as student leaders and some of our current Prep students. If you have friends or family thinking of enrolling their child at CJC next year, please encourage them to come along.

Earth Day was recognized at school yesterday and across the globe there is a sense of urgency around climate change, emission targets and our ever increasing use of finite resources to power our lives. Turning off the lights when you are not in the room, walking to buy the paper and morning coffee and lowering the thermostat by a few degrees will all assist in preserving our most valuable asset-the planet Earth.
