Musical Notes

Musical Notes

It has been a term filled with many exciting performance opportunities for our students. As I reflect on the term we have welcomed new families who will commence at Blackfriars in 2018 at Music Information Evening, have had wonderful success at the ABODA Festival, a vibrant and talented showcase of talent at our Blackfriars Priory School Annual Music Concert and most recently the Catholic School’s Music Festival.

Catholic School’s Music Festival

On 19 and 20 September, Blackfriars was strongly represented at the 2017 Catholic School’s Music Festival. This was a momentous occasion, as this year, students experienced performing at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. The Percussion Ensemble and the Stage Band performed under the ORB section of the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and were enjoyed by the attendees of the festival as they passed through the entrance.

The Senior Vocal students performed alongside boys from St Michael’s, Nazareth, CBC and Sacred Heart College to form a combined Baritone Group, which students much enjoyed. The 6/7 Choir, under the direction of Mrs Libby Hunter, performed energetically as part of the Festival Choir. I’d sincerely like to thank and congratulate Mrs Libby Hunter, Miss Marie Wohling, Mr Charli Holoubek and Mr Larry Todd whose ensembles all performed to such a high standard and with great enthusiasm. It is a wonderful occasion to witness the capabilities and passion of our young people and the way in which the Arts can provide a collaborative and transcendent experience.

Opening of Performing Arts

On Tuesday 26 September we celebrated the Blessing and Opening of the Performing Arts Centre. I would like to thank all the students who contributed to both singing in the choir for the blessing and providing music during the refreshments.

Scholarship Auditions

Congratulations to all students who participated in Scholarship Auditions this week. Correspondence will be sent home in the coming weeks to boyh successful and unsuccessful candidates.

AMEB Results

Congratulations to Harry Boyd-Turner in Year 6, who achieved a B+ recently in his 1st Grade Piano exam. A wonderful accomplishment!

Instrumental Lessons 2018

Over the next month, students will receive home an application for Instrumental Lessons for 2018. If students are wishing to commence, continue or exit from Instrumental lessons, it is vital in our planning that these forms are returned before the commencement of next year.

I thank everyone for all of their efforts throughout Term 3 and look forward to celebrating the Advent Term 4 as a community.
